MULBERRY QUILTERS  (4-1-10)
Newsletter – April 2010 www.quiltingguildofthevillages.org
Dear Quilting Friends, Time flies when you’re having fun, so soon some of our members are talking about heading back up north. We are used to their friendship and their contributions to our chapter – they will be missed. Our effort to the charity quilt project has been good. Our first donation will be to angel flight. We hope they will be able to come and receive the quilts on Tuesday, April 13. Don’t forget, however, that this year it’s an ongoing effort, so continue working on this worthwhile project. Joan Shay will be here for the class on April 6. We are so fortunate to have Carol and Carolyn to plan all these wonderful classes for us. Give them some feedback on your experience. As for myself, I feel like I’m working a little harder this year and I’m also learning good techniques. Enjoy. Don’t forget to work on your boutique and silent auction items, too. Our quilt show will be here before we know it. I really like the Show-and-Tell portion of our meetings. Keep on bringing those nice finished projects. We belong to inspire one another, that’s a good way to serve. Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm and positive attitude. c) A Quilt in a day ruler is needed for the next Block of the Month class.

d) We will only be switching tables on the business meeting day.

7) Membership Report:

a) Ginger reported that in 2009 we had 84 members and only 10 members did not attend any meetings. As of today, we have 77 members. A new directory will be coming out this week via email.

i) A question was raised about putting a cap on our membership. After a discussion, it was decided that 2 tables will be set up together instead of 4 unless there is a class. We will inform potential members of the other chapters in case they would be more convenient, since not all chapters advertise in the Rec. News.

8) Executive Board Report: Lucie went over the highlights:

a) The guild needs a publicity chairperson. This is for the guild and not for the 2011 show. If you are interested, please let Lucie know.

b) The executive board has voted not to have any guild meetings in July and August.

c) The board has asked that each chapter discuss whether they would like to have refreshments again. Dale Angione made a suggestion that since we have 10 chapters, each chapter take a month to provide refreshments and try it for one year. Since the Rec. Dept. provides coffee, water and paper products, the chapter would only need to provide food. A vote was taken and this suggestion will be given to the Executive Board.

d) The minutes will be put on the bulletin board for further review and are also available on the guild web site.

9) Guild Program Report:

a) Tuesday, Feb 2nd, Molly Waddell is giving a class. It is being held at Colony Cottage Rec. Center from 9 to 3 and the cost is $39.00. There are still openings.

b) Fireside Quilts will be at the March guild meeting.

c) It was decided that all chapters will rotate the duties for the front tables (attendance, show & tell, name tag raffle tickets and 50/50) and assisting the teacher if she is selling her products. Our month is June and we will need from 5 to 7 volunteers.

d) Patchwork Garden is sponsoring a trip to the Swannee Quilt Festival in Trenton, FL on March 13th. The cost is $ 28.00. Details are on the bulletin board.

10) Refreshments: Mary Ann Pankowski thanked everyone that brought refreshments today.

11) Retreat: Mary Ann Pankowski and Rose Luehrsen are taking care of the retreat for Carolyn Heald.

12) Charity Quilts: Monica Peidl has resigned as chairperson. Gae Nocella will replace her. She has asked for volunteers to help. Gae will have a short meeting later this morning with her volunteers.

13) Blotto: Kathy Lazenby explained that Blotto stands for Block Lotto, in case anyone did not know. There will be blotto from Feb to Nov. She still needs volunteers for June, July, August, October and November. She is hoping that people who have never volunteered before sign up.

14) Library: Lois has asked everyone to check their homes for our library books. There are still books checked out from 2008. She would like everyone to try and get the books back in a timely manner. If you need to bring back a book and it is not library day, if Lois or Brooke are here, they will accept the book. Please bring the books back to the library when you are done, do not pass the book around your table. Library will be open on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 9:00 to 10:30 SHARP!

15) OLD BUSINESS:

a) Patty Rizzo and Lynn Heipershausen conducted the audit of the books for 2009. They are done except for the last bank statement. There are some questions for Gail Richards which will have to wait till she returns from Italy so they will not sign off on the audit at this time. Addie has the checkbook so she can carry on her duties.

b) Education grant: The $40.00 scholarship is only for 1 class per year per chapter. When all classes for the year are complete, the names of people who have attended a class will be put in a drawing and a scholarship winner will be selected.

c) Since a lot of information is sent via email, it was suggested that if you are interested in the topic, please print a copy and bring it to the meeting. This will save on the chapter paying for copies.

d) Budget: A discussion was held on the proposed budget:

i) The Christmas party will be pot luck; this year’s dues are in the bank balance; people have asked that education be a priority and the program budget has been increased; just because money is allotted, does not mean that the chairperson has to spend it all; members have asked that the money be spent, not carried in the checking account year after year; we will have additional income from the raffles, blotto and the grant from the guild.

ii) A motion was made by Ginger Cullen and seconded by Helen Keohane to adopt the budget as proposed. A vote was taken and the budget was passed.

e) Gae talked about the fabric that was purchased by the chapter. (At a previous meeting, Lucie told us she was approached by a women who was selling all her fabric for $500.00. Lucie, Gae and Karen Meetz went to look it over and felt that it was worth it. After a discussion, it was voted on and approved that the chapter buy the fabric and auction off it off at a meeting to reimburse the treasury.) There is so much fabric that an auction would take too long so Gae, Lucie and Karen spent 6 – 7 hours sorting and pricing all the fabric. We will have the sale on March 2nd. Please bring small bills or checks and bags to take your fabric home in. Gae will need assistance on that day for set up. There is also fabric and batting that can be used for charity quilts.

16) NEW BUSINESS:

a) Lucie made some new appointments to assist her in her duties:

i) Bulletin Board – Sylvia Millard (Quilt categories for 2011 show are on the board)
