MULBERRY QUILTERS – FEBRUARY 22ND MEETING 1) President Lucie Verbois welcomed all our new members. She acknowledged all February birthdays. Refreshments were served and the meeting was called to order at 9:25. Lucie led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2) The secretary’s report was read. A motion was made by Carol LaFleur and seconded by Dale Angione to accept the minutes as read. The motion was passed. The treasurer’s report was read. A motion was made by Joan Henry and seconded by Pat Rizzo to accept the report as read. The motion was passed. 3) Program report: a) Mary Ann reported that we had 25 members from Laurel Manor attend our meeting last month. She received lots of compliments on the program and the library presentation. b) March 1st and 8th is set for working on our charity quilts. c) April 12th will be a round robin. d) May 31st we will be hosting Sunset Pointe. Quilter’s Dream will be here to give a trunk show. 4) Membership Report: a) Ginger reported that we have 82 members. b) She will be sending out an addendum with our new members and their photos as soon as it is complete. 5) Executive Board: a) Mary Ann attended in place of Tonia Brock. b) There will be a budget committee meeting that must be attended by each chapter’s treasurer. The date will be posted on the website. c) Chapter presidents need to give Jeannette Flint an average number of people attending their meetings. d) A question was brought up about members receiving money and benefiting from the guild so classes that are taught by guild members will now be handled by each individual teacher (fees, supply lists, class size, etc). This will not apply to national teachers. e) Ann Moroz and Carol Schroder will be the co-chairpersons of the Quilt Show in 2013. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please email them to Ann. All ideas will be addressed by a steering committee consisting of 5 guild members. f) The minutes and financial report will be posted on the bulletin board. 6) Guild Classes: a) All guild classes will now be held at the new Sumter County Library on Rt. 466A. b) The classes for March and April are full. c) May 18th and 25th (Wed.) – Doris Woodward and Micki MacCumbee – Crazy Quilting. d) May 19th (Thurs.) – Dale Angione – Twisted Bargello. 7) Guild Programs: a) Mar. 1st - garage sale b) Apr 5th – David Taylor lecture c) May 3rd – Lisa Marie Sanders – Quilting with Aliens d) June 7th – Joy Dudis – Home decorating ideas and antique quilts. 8) Refreshments: a) Madaline thanked everyone for the great refreshments that were brought in today. She needs one more person for March and there are still openings in the summer. 9) Retreat: a) Mary Ann reported that the retreat was very successful. 25 people attended and 23 have signed up again for next year. She will cutoff the number of people at 30. Next year’s retreat will be from Feb. 7th to the 9th. She will be accepting deposits at the next meeting and hopes to keep the cost the same as this year. 10) Charity Quilts: a) Bobbie Welter asked for everyone to be available to help next week. She will be working on making kits with 5” squares. There are also patterns available if needed. Sewing machines will be needed and also bring items that you will need for prep work. b) She has sent out 7 letters requesting free batting and is waiting for their responses. c) Gail Richards will explain her pattern for a Batting Buddy quilt made from scraps next week 11) Blotto: a) The two drawings for the apron blotto were won by Laurette Thompson and Gail Richards. 12) Library: a) Barbara has 162 books in the data base and has 4 more boxes to go through. She will then make a separate category for fictional books with a quilting theme. 13) UFO’s: a) Ann reported that she has 18 signed up for the project this quarter. This quarter’s project must be done and turned in by March 22nd. b) You will be able to join for the next three quarters after March 31st. The cost is $ 3.00. 14) Shop Hop: a) Robyn announced that the shop hop will be held on March 29th. We will be going by bus and it holds 57 people. The cost is $ 20.00. Make checks payable to Mulberry Quilters. b) The bus will leave from Mulberry at 8:30am. c) First stop: Patchwork Pig in Lakeland. We will receive a 25% discount. Lunch will be on your own. d) The bus will leave there at 1:45. e) Second stop: Quilt Shop on Plum Lane in Dade City. We will receive a 15% discount. f) The bus will leave at 4:00 and we should arrive back at Mulberry between 5:00 and 5:15. 15) Webster: a) Carol Knoll asked that, if you have any pictures for the website, please email them to her. Updates can only be done once a month. 16) Boutique: a) Marion thanked all the members that donated their proceeds to the chapter. She reported that there have been some discrepancies on the payments (all but 1 of ours have been resolved). There is a missing tag #505. Please check your envelopes. Judy Porter reminded everyone of the waiver signed and said that they tried their best to make sure everything was accounted for. b) Nella Rose commended Marion for all of her hard work. 17) Scrapbook: a) Diane Cook has the scrapbook here if anyone is interested in looking at it. 18) The fat quarter drawings were won by Brook Black, Gae Nocella, Carol Knoll and Lucis Verbois. Next month’s fat quarter will be a BATIK. 19) New Business: a) Marilyn Tafro announced that Sisters Guild will be hosting Pat Knoechel on April 14th (Thurs). They will also be hosting a class on a folded fabric technique by Alice Means on March 23rd (Wed). It will be from 9:30 to 3:00 at the Masonic Lodge in Leesburg and the cost is $25. You will need your sewing machine and lunch is not provided. If you are interested, please see Marilyn. b) Dale Angione showed a board that is placed over your ironing board to give you a more rectangular surface to work with. They are selling in catalogs for $139. There is a gentleman in the area (Richard Meunier) who will make them for $40. (plain wood) and $55. (covered in batting and ironing material). He also makes quilt ladders. His cards will be put on the bulletin board. c) Next month’s blotto was presented by Diane Cook – “Flip Flops” and the background fabric will be provided. d) The gift basket was won by Robyn Patterson. e) Lois recommended to everyone that they check their magazines before you purchase them. She recently bought a quilt magazine at Barnes and Noble and pages were ripped out. When she went to return it, there was only one magazine that was complete. f) Show and Tell featured beautiful items made by our members. 20)

MULBERRY QUILTERS – JANUARY 25TH MEETING 1) President Lucie Verbois welcomed all our new members. She acknowledged all January birthdays. Refreshments were served and the meeting was called to order at 9:30. Lucie led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2) The secretary’s report was not read since we did not have a meeting in December. The treasurer’s report was read and accepted. 3) Lucie introduced and commended her volunteers for this upcoming year. 4) The fat quarter drawing was won by Bobbie, Lois, Robyn and Julie. February’s fat quarter will be an Oriental fabric. 5) Membership Report: a) Ginger reported that we have 79 members b) A membership list was sent out last week via email. Ginger will be sending out an addendum with our new members and their photos by the end of this month c) She is taking orders for the lights that hang around your neck. The cost is $16.00. Please let her know if you are interested by Feb. 1st. 6) Program report: a) Mary Ann said that 11 people signed up for the appliqué class taught by Marge Jensen that started last week. It is a three week class. b) Feb. 1st there will be a chenille jacket class taught by Rose Luehrsen. 13 people have signed up and there is still an opening. 7) Executive Board and Quilt Show: a) Mary Ann attended in place of Tonia Brock. b) The guild has a credit at Staples and a membership roster of all the members is being complied and will be given out. c) The judging of the quilts is complete. d) All silent auction items are to be handed in today. e) Quilts for the show are to be handed in on 1/27 between 8am and 10am. The # 100’s are from 8am to 9am and the # 1000’s are from 9am to 10am. f) The pickup time for the quilts will be 1/29 between 5pm and 6pm. g) There are some volunteer positions open so if you are interested, please check when you arrive at the show. h) The Piecemakers are sponsoring a bus trip to Rockledge on Feb. 15th. The cost is $16.00. The bus will leave from the Spanish Springs bowling alleys at 8:30am. If you are interested, please call Wanda @ 753-9174. The checks should be made payable to the Piecemakers. i) A suggestion was made that any leftovers from the boutique could be donated to the John Rollen Charity. j) Marian said that she will bring in as many of the leftovers from the boutique next week. She said that she has three vans full of items from our chapter for the boutique. k) Jeanette Flint wanted to remind everyone that there will be an appraiser at the show. Verbal and written appraisals will be given and there is a cost for each. l) Dale said that all the 5000 programs are folded and stapled and thanked everyone that offered to help. She was able to have a larger program than last show for half the cost. m) REMEMBER: Your guild membership card is your free entry into the show. 8) Guild Classes: a) All guild classes are held at the Methodist Church in Oxford. b) Feb 8th, 15th, and 22 - Mystery Quilt with Doreen Hunter. There are still openings and the class may be cancelled if there are not enough people interested. c) The appliqué class on Mar 1st is full. The beginning quilting 4 wk class in March is full. The David Taylor class on April 5th is full. 9) Guild Programs: a) Feb. 1st - Show winners b) Mar. 1st - garage sale c) Apr 5th – David Taylor lecture d) Marge asked that if you have not filled out the survey about the monthly guild meetings, please see her. e) There is a bus trip to the Sewing and Quilt Expo on Mar 18th. The cost is $25. if you are a mbr, $27., if not. 10) Refreshments: a) Madaline thanked everyone for the great refreshments today. She will pass around the sign up sheet because a lot of the months need volunteers. A suggestion was made to label your food especially because of food allergies and sugar free issues. 11) Retreat: a) The retreat is Feb. 8th to the 10th at the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park. Please do not show up before 1pm. Mary Ann handed out the room assignments. b) Tonia is taking over for Helen for the class on stack-n- whack. There is some preliminary work that needs to be done so please see her for instructions. 12) Charity Quilts: a) Bobbie Welter asked for everyone’s help to make this project a success. There are 6 weeks reserved for the chapter to work on charity quilts as a group: March 1st and 8th, May 10th and 17th and August 9th and 16th. b) She will be working on making kits with 5 in squares. Quilts can be made for babies, kids and veterans. c) Angel Flight asked that if anyone has stuffed animals that can be donated to them. They hand them out to the children along with a quilt 13) Blotto: a) Barbara Lauer still needs a volunteer for July and August. The two drawings for the umbrella blotto were won by Diane Robbins and Lynn Heipershausen. 14) UFO’s a) Ann reported that we have 19 signed up for this project. Today is the last day to sign up for this quarter. 15) Library: a) Barbara Morse gave a presentation of the web catalog for the Mulberry library books . She is still in the process of compiling the books. The website is www.shelfari.com. It has a tutorial on the home page. You will be able to see all of the books that we have and be able to request whichever book you want on library day. b) Library day is the SECOND Tuesday of the month and she will bring her laptop to help you with the site. 16) Old Business: a) Joan Henry and Carol Knoll audited the books for 2010. 500.00 2375.00 A motion was made to accept the budget by Doris Woodward and seconded by Gail Rathgeber. After a short discussion, the motion was passed. c) Laurel Manor chapter has been invited to our Feb. 8th meeting. We will have a trunk show by Whippoorwill. Carol LaFleur would like to have cookies, muffins and breads for refreshments. Please sign up after the meeting. d) Please make sure you have signed a 2011 Recreation Dept. waiver form. 17) New Business: a) A list of all the guild chapter presidents is on our bulletin board. If you need anything posted to the board please see Sylvia Millard. b) Margaret Kelley is keeping a notebook of the the Blotto and Class patterns. Please remember to give her a copy of the pattern each month. c) Nella Rose is our greeter. If you see a visitor at the door, please let Nella know. d) Patty Rizzo is in charge of our publicity. e) Robyn is in charge of our shop hops and she is previewing shops. The next shop hop will be 3/29. f) Operation Homebound (which brings meals to shut ins) is looking for donations to update their kitchen. The notice will be posted on the bulletin board. g) Lucie received a notice regarding a Bernina 1230 for sale for $ 575. The information is on the bulletin board. h) Next month’s blotto was presented by Lois – “Aprons” and the background fabric will be provided. i) The gift basket was won by Shirley Wessman. j) Show and Tell featured beautiful items made by our members. 18)
