September 7th

There is a guild meeting tonight at Laurel Manor. There will be a trunk show.

Everyone introduced themselves again (for benefit of new members).

Mary Ann Sasenick is our new Program Committee representative. She will attend meetings on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 1 PM.

We worked on the Trust Me quilt project (taught by Alice Nicholas).

Brenda will bring shirt samples to our Sept 21st meeting.

Photos for quilt show entries must be in by November 1st.

Barbara O’Brien gave us a quilt show update.

September 14th

On Sept 21st we will have a minister from The Babies and Toddler’s Pantry to speak about his charity. Mary Ann gave us an update on Guild programs. On November 16th Nancy Chung of the Pacific Rim Quilt Co. will give a class at La Hacienda. Two names from each chapter will be drawn for this class. Each person will pay $25.  There is a fan class on October 5th at the Oxford United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann demonstrated how she made her design wall.

September 21st

Alice asked for a volunteer to be our member-at-large to the Guild. This person would attend meetings at Saddlebrook the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 3 PM.

James Keough of the Lady Lake Congregational Church Spoke to us about his Infant & Toddler Pantry. It is for children up to age 2.  They distribute food, clothing, diapers, quilts, etc to needy families for their children. His group also refers people to Love, Inc for training and other help.

Brenda took orders for shirts for our chapter after the style and color was decided. Orders will be repeated again in October for people who did not attend the meeting.

A vote was taken on the type of name tags to be ordered (plastic won).

It was brought up that Joann’s offers a 10% discount to guild members (in addition to sale prices).

Carol Windle has asked for the address of all chapter members and the year they joined (required by the guild).

On October 5th Alice will participate in a demo of chapter projects. She asked that we bring our circle projects to the guild meeting that night.

It was decided that open slots in our chapter will be filled from our waiting list (in the order that names are on the list).

September 28th

Brenda ran the meeting today. Sheddy bought a DVD that has pictures of the quilts entered in the Jacksonville QuiltFest. 13 of our members attended the show Friday September 24th.

Today is out to lunch day at Toojays.

Minutes – July 20 – August 31, 2010

July 20

Carolyn Heald stopped by early and gave receipts for those who signed up for the Quilt Retreat in Oct.

Brenda gave us receipts for the bus trip to the Quilt Show in Jacksonville in Sep.

Gay was back from MI and went over the instructions for the Trust Me Quilt she is giving a class on in Sep. Maryann had purchased a quilt book on-line  at Half.com by Martha Thompson "SquareDance" that had the template needed for the Trust Me/Square Dance quilt pattern.  Carol & Brenda will get the plastic template sheets and make 10-15 templates for all of us for the class. Some of us will first try a placemat using the design then attempt the quilt, if we wanted.

Thelma suggested that we go to lunch after quilting. Cane Gardens was suggested.  Sounded like a great idea to all.

Sheddy suggested some web sites for machine quilting patterns...try 365 days of free motion quilting.

July 27

Mary-Elizabeth told us that we need to sign up as greeters for the Jan 2011 Quilt Show.

A group was going out to lunch at Cane Garden after the meeting.

Ginny Cope suggested two ideas for quilting projects – The La Borsa purse and the Okra Coke Quilt.

Brenda told us that Connie from Quilter’s Dream (Leesburg) would do a tool demonstration for us either at her shop or at our meeting (possibly in October). We need to come up with a list of tools for her to demonstrate.

Mary-Elizabeth had kits for the Yellow Brick Road pattern we are making next meeting.

We need to bring a fine sharpie pent to make templates for the Trust Me quilt.

August 3

We decided that we need a sign in sheet at every meeting.

Lunch last week was good and our chapter talked about doing it once a month after the last meeting of the month.

To date we have 45 members. Starting in the fall any new member will pay $10 membership dues till the end of the year. Annual dues follow the calendar year. Members who have not paid their dues need to do so as only those paid up will be considered members of the chapter.

We had a discussion as to whether we will share our membership list, phone numbers and email addresses with the whole group. We will find out from the membership who wishes to opt out of this published list (by Sept 1).

Mary-Elizabeth taught a class on the Yellow Brick Road quilt.

August 10

We now have 46 members. The treasury has $560. Alice Nicholas has made up a calendar and will try to email it to everyone. It was decided that the last Tuesday of the month will be our lunch out day. Sept 7th is the Villages Quilt Guild meeting at 7 PM. Our trip to QuiltFest is Friday September 24th.  On October 5th we will be going to Quilter’s Dream in Leesburg for a tool demo. October 13-15 is the Quilt Retreat. In October Alice will be showing Circle Quilts at the Guild meeting. Judy requested anyone not wanting their phone number and email address in a roster to be sent to our members to please let her know by Sept 1.

August 17

We worked on charity quilts today. It was reminded that people can still sign up to go to QuiltFest. Anyone interested in going on the quilt retreat in October can call Carol Heald at 751-0840. October 1st is the deadline to sign up to have your quilt judged in the January 2011 Quilt Show. We will be working on the Trust Me quilt on September 7th.

August 24

We now have 50 members. Correction to date: Oct 5th is the deadline to submit quilts for judging in the January 2011 Quilt Show. Lunch out after our August 31st meeting will be at Bob Evans. 15% of sales will go to Operation Shoebox. Candidates are needed for officers for both our chapter and the Guild for 2011. One of the places that will be visited as part of the Oct 6-9 shop hop is Sew Many Things in Mount Dora.

August 31

Alice Nicholas is our new president.

Mary-Elizabeth told us that we need two people from our chapter who will be on the nominating committee for Guild candidates for office (by the meeting on Sept 7th). The Guild is holding a class on Dresden Fans on October 5th.

Upcoming events:

Sept 7th Trust Me quilt in Sea Breeze, Trunk Show at Guild meeting; Sept 14th Jennie Haskins Machine Embroidery Demo 9 AM – 12 PM; Sept 24th Senior Adventures trip to QuiltFest; Oct 5th Trip to Quilter’s Dream and Guild meeting Demo night (Alice is doing Circles); Oct 6-8 Shop Hop; Oct 13-15 Quilter’s Retreat.

July 13  Gay Harris will teach a class on how to make the “Trust Me” quilt in October.  The group is looking for instructions, a template and fabric requirements.

Minutes of Meetings: We will attend Quiltfest in Jacksonville on Friday, September 24th. 7 members have signed up with the bus company. Anyone else wanting to attend will need to sign up individually with Senior Adventures.

July 6   Alice Nicholas demonstrated how to make a pillowcase (using “Petal Pushers Magic Pillowcases!)

June 22  Our group complete two charity quilt tops.

June 1, 2010 Alice Nicholas reported on The Villages Quilt Guild programs and classes to be offered. Sign up for classes can be done through her. Alice taught a class on Circle Blocks, offering good quilting tips and a demonstration of the project.

May 25, 2010 We had Show & Tell. Judy asked for corrections to email addresses. We talked about the class that is scheduled for June 1 (taught by Alice Nicholas) on Circle Blocks.

May 18, 2010 Chapter voted to limit membership to 50. Everyone introduced themselves and told one interesting fact about themselves.
