Quilt
Art is often
the putting down
on blank surface;
paper or canvas,
lined or not,
words or paint,
even crayons;
it matters not.
The art is
in the care
taken there;
in the adding
to the field.
The bits and
fragments of
thought and
vision sit still,
until a light shines
within the maker's eye
and says, it's done.
Starting with
a fractured,
tangled web of
bits and pieces
fabric and thread -
not woven,
but sewn with
regimental abandon.
This is an old-fashioned
sort of art that
grows from itself -
meshed and hewn
just so. Not unlike
a sculpture made of
glass and shards;
done only when
the maker sees
the light - just right,
and says it's so.
