FIRST:  Next week:  HOSTING THE GUILD MEETING
It’s the July Ice Cream Social Meeting!  Let’s be the best assistants the Guild has ever had!  Put on your happy face, show up at 6:00 and help make everyone feel welcome as they come in.  The Ice Cream purveyors are handling the distribution, we only have to greet the members coming in, assist if the Guild is presenting anything, and enjoy ourselves. Sounds like a good time to me.

Finally - a report!!

Jeannie called me with the latest summer-time quilter news, so here is an update of what is happening in The Villages - which isn't a whole lot.  I'm attaching a photo of my own completed sewing project, and will explain in the news.  I'd like to invite anyone away (or anyone there)  to email me what you’re doing - sewing or otherwise - including any pictures, and I'll send it out so we can feel a little bit more in-touch.

What's been happening???? Well, there has been continued progress on the Mystery Project, being deftly handled by a smaller but dedicated group.  Several of our members are away, some for short trips, some for longer.  It's been hot there,  and everyone misses everyone!

GUILD:  At the last board meeting our chapter was given 6 Block kits to assemble for the Auction Quilt.  The guild suggested that we assign 2 people to do the blocks so there will be consistency in the construction.  There is some good reasoning to that, but "who" is yet to be determined.  More on this later.  Remember that we are hosting the next Guild Meeting.  Ice Cream all around!

NEXT MEETING:  Woven Place Mat
Eileen will be demonstrating the construction of a woven fabric place mat, which I wish I could see a picture of.  Please, someone email me a photo during and/or after you do this so I can share it..... Anyway, here are the supplies those attending will need:

    2 pieces of 16" x 20" complimentary fabrics
    1 - 16" x 20" heat activated stabilizer with one "sticky" side
1 piece of cardboard or a firm ironing pad large enough to iron/work with the pieces
Misc. tools to bring, or can share someone’s:  rotary cutter, scissors, masking tape.
Sounds like fun.  Eileen is so creative.

MEMBER HUG-IN:
Sydell Brenner’s 97 yr. old mother passed while she and Joel were spending the summer back east.  It was a blessing that this happened at a time when all her family were in the same geographical region, and had been spending a good bit of quality time with her.  Condolences to Sydell from the Chapter, and anyone wishing to send a personal card may do so to Sydell Brenner, P.O. Box 3033, New Milford, CT 06776, "Northville Store Sub Station."

CARELL'S PROJECT:  So it’s what it looks like!  I chose to get a desk-top Mac when I replaced my laptop, then found I needed to carry the thing around from time to time. Ugh. But, actually, it's not too heavy, and there’s no power supply, (the whole thing is the monitor in a  Mac) but it's awkward, and I needed a "safe" way to transport it, so I designed a carry case, lined and padded and quilted a little.  It opens very wide for easy placement, and I also made a sleeve for the keyboard and mouse.  And it's pretty.  Lined in lavendar.  Very cool.  Next report I'll send a photo of the whimsical little painted item I'm doing right now.  So . . . . . what are you doing?

SECRET SISTERS
We're all over the place this summer, but you may want to remember your sister from where you are (especially if she has a birthday going on).  If you'd like to send something and don't have an address, just put it in a suspicious plain wrapper with no return address, so no one will know who it came from, and send it to Jeannie Meyer at 1158 Eureka Mill Run, The Villages FL 32162. If it bothers you that it will have no return address, go ahead and put it on and Jeannie has taken an oath not to divulge any secrets!

Greetings from the absent Secretary! A big Thank You to Cathy Stone and Pat Chapin for responding to my request for pictures and information to share.  Hope everyone will enjoy what we include this week.  I'm still working on my cat painting, maybe you'll see it next week.  In the meantime I took a class to do a Swedish form of stroke work painting, and now also have a rooster to finish  --  along with a couple of Santa signs I found I'd stashed away years ago.  See, we don't just have unfinished quilt projects lurking!

PICTURES:
[Webmaster:  Sorry, but due to a technical problem, we could not include one of the submitted photos, entitled:  "Look at that happy Cathy and Dick Stone enjoying their northern adventure in Mammoth Springs, in Yellowstone."  However, Webmaster is happy to include a photo from her June trip:  Yellowstone's Twig Geyser :>)]

Cathy reports that her daughter's wedding went wonderful, and she enjoyed a great week with her grandson afterward.  Also a phone/camera shot of my mom and I playing cards in her apartment - something I
do a lot.  And finally, Pat sent several photos, which I will spread over the next weeks, of the last meeting.

LAST MEETING REPORT:
Wow, those woven place mats look like miniature crazy quilts!  Eileen did a wonderful job sharing this unique process where fabric is actually slit and woven into itself, then decoratively sewn.  We have two more pictures to share, but other show and tell pictures were also interesting.  Everyone enjoyed Linda's friend, Mary visiting us.  It's a long way from England, but we hope she comes back often.

NEXT WEEK:
More work on the mystery project, and/or bring your own projects to work on.
