LAUREL MANOR CHAPTER MINUTES:  AUGUST 5, 2011

Back to Laurel Manor
Summer continues with lots of heat and plenty of rain pretty much everywhere our
members are! Pool lovers are having a great season, and quilters are appreciating
their air conditioning!  I finally moved back to the machine to get a little project
done for my grandson's 4th birthday this week (picture on right). The alphabet
is depicted in each block with a corresponding animal, all in great color.

LAST WEEK: Charity Quilts are getting a good start by using all those
accumulated miscellaneous strips.  It's always a good time to sew
together and this is just the start for this dedicated project, especially
now that our Mystery Project is complete.

NEXT WEEK: Field Trip!   Everyone, please be at meeting location near the entry road to Laurel Manor at 8:00 a.m.; we will be pulling out at 8:15 a.m.  We'll divide into groups to car pool down to Winter Haven and Heartfelt Quilting, who will be ready for us with some surprise goodies and a 15% discount.  Come prepared to contribute to the gas cost for your driver; we really appreciate those who are willing to take us out.

FOLLOWING WEEK: Back to our charity quilts and personal projects.

REMINDERS:
August 30th our visit from the Chatham Quilt Chapter. Thank you all for helping with the Mystery project, and signing up for the food and refreshments. This is always a special opportunity for sharing and getting to know our sister chapter members.

DUES will be DUE mid October. The fee is $10 for our treasury and $5 for the Guild.
We'll keep reminding you!

FROM THE QUILD WEBMASTER:  "Photos from Tuesday's Guild meeting are online and we are up-to-date with Chapter newsletters and minutes/photos. If you haven't looked at the "Chapter News" page to see Beth Landas's butterflies, give it a quick look-see. They are beauties. I believe we are also current with Program Committee updates (except that the March 2012 Alice Means workshop has been cancelled).  I will do a revision on that tomorrow. However, today's news about the move to have Bob Purcell as the featured speaker in September is online. Another WTG, to Micki and her committee members for bringing in the President and co-owner of Superior Threads to augment "Stitching My Memories" materials.
Technical reminder:  if you routinely go to the Guild website or a particular page on the website, you may need to use the REFRESH button to activate updated information.  Most systems cache frequently selected sites/pages to make them open 'fast' when you come back to them.  That means, however, that you will not automatically see updated pages. Hitting Refresh will take care of that problem."

BE SURE AND CHECK OUT OUR GUILD WEBSITE: www.QGOTV.org
Four of our members were part of the show and tell at the last quilt meeting, which had a Christmas theme.  Anyone else working on Christmas projects yet?

LAUREL MANOR CHAPTER MINUTES:  AUGUST 30, 2011
Hope everyone enjoyed a nice Labor Day weekend. Certainly not as meaningful as when we we're all working full time - but a nice kick-off into resetting our minds to a new season and all the implications that follow - Halloween, fall color in our wardrobes, excuses to decorate with some orange (tastefully, of course), and the Thanksgiving and Christmas that inevitably follow.

CHATHAM SOCIAL: We have a very happy President who says "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all" for your contributions and participation! What a good time!

When Jeannie called me, she went on and on about the success of our long-awaited reciprocal meeting. I understand the food was awesome - really impressed our guests (actually, Jeannie said she was pretty impressed herself!) and the shared Show-and-Tell was hugely enjoyed by both chapters. Chatham members paid us lots of compliments and went away with lots of ideas and inspiration and a real sense of connection to us. Good Job, Everyone!

NEXT TWO MEETINGS: This is where the "still-awayers" are going to turn an ugly shade of Envy-Green. Donna Burner will be conducting the class off the year! Dolls! Someone's got to send me pictures again and I have to try to get them out to you! I remember talking to Donna when she was planning on taking a class. We are soooooo lucky to have members do all these super creative things, then share them with us. Hopefully there will be a winter repeat of this meeting. To add to the inspiration, Candace has been working her magic with little dolls too, including dying her own fabrics for them - so there is no end of potential ahead with these gals.

BOO! Guess what's just around the corner! Here's your early notice: If you want to participate in the Halloween Block Drawing, create a themed 12½" x 12½" unfinished block then bring it to the Halloween party we'll be having at the 25th of October meeting, and all participants will draw for the bunch. Really fun to make, get and create with.

MISCELLEANOUS:
We need some ideas for the Quilts of Valor project
Pat will be teaching a block by block method of quilting your own quilt in October
Yearly dues will be collected in October; $15.00 total ($10 for our chapter and $5 for the Guild)
November we will have our own personal, totally maniac, silent auction to feed our treasury. It's not too early to start working on whatever you're going to donate.
Christy and Diana have volunteered to be our reps for the 2013 Quilt show. Working members will be Main Quilt showroom "Angels."
Our President will be taking to the road soon and will be absent the Sept. 13th and 20th meetings. Joy will be sitting in for her, and all will proceed as usual. Have a great trip, Jeannie!

NEW MEMBERS: We're welcoming Eileen McGuirk and Audrey Witt this week. It's always good to have more creative contributors. We just can't get enough new ideas! We hope you'll enjoy being part of our special family.

DON'T FORGET THE GUILD MEETING: Tuesday, Sept. 6, get there about 6:30, at Laurel Manor.
