LAUREL MANOR CHAPTER MINUTES:  OCTOBER 11, 2011

Back to Laurel Manor
Somebody hit the laugh button this morning. As members began to gather, with a few returning to warm welcomes, the mood was high for this meeting. Observing new Realtors® (needing to familiarize themselves with the Rec Centers and programs) got into our groove, and 3 visiting sisters joined the increasing antics, wishing they could join us even though they didn't quilt, just for the fun. But somehow, President Jeannie did steer us through the business of the day.

QUILTERS WE'RE THINKING OF: Good news from Jeannie that Barb Happeny is doing better and looking forward to a time when she will be joining us again. We're checking on Pat Padala, and send some positive thoughts to Sydell Brenner, who took an unscheduled fall on the tennis court and is dealing with some fractured vertebra. Now she'll have to cancel that Rock Climbing trip!

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM: Cathy Stone did a great job demonstrating how to do the lattice process she shared with us. It's another fascinating addition to the creative forms we use. Thanks, Cathy.

DUES are continuing to be collected in the month of October. The amount is $15. made out to "Norma Jean Meyer" - aka Jeannie.

NEXT WEEK: Work on the new Heart Block lap quilts for internal and Charity use, has begun. Carole Cranston brought a nice pile, with template for the heart and suggestions for application - pretty much, do whatever you want - The Block is to be a pattterned background piece measuring 9", then a heart (template available) of a corresponding solid fabric is to be located within. Not necessarily centered, or straight, but can be creatively placed as desired. Signatures will go on the hearts. 20 blocks will make a nice size quilt. Bring your contribution fabrics, and machines if you like, or we can hand applique, fuse, etc. to next week's meeting, when we'll have fun together working on this project.

OCT. 25th. ROCKLEDGE TRIP: The $25. cost for our bussed trip to Rockledge is due next week. Again, checks should be made out to that Norma Jean woman....We have18 signed up, and assurance that the 2 more needed to fill the bus can be found outside our group. Guild President Jeannette will join us, as she has in some past trips. Please note, this is a 2 hour drive, and there is no bathroom on this bus, so meter out that coffee, girls. Thanks, Donna for arranging this.

NOVEMBER 1st. The Halloween Party (BRING SNACKS) and drawing of the Halloween Blocks. Which, by the way are fabulous this year! Remember to bring your ever popular Show and Tell items, and, Auction items for the next week's event, will be due.

AUCTION PARTY: Is everyone busy on their Auction items? NOVEMBER 8TH. we will launch our first Auction for the Treasury party which requires you to bring an item for us all to fight over! President Jeannie is hosting the event at her home, 1158 Eureka Mill Run. A snack to share will be appreciated. We'll start at the regurlar meeting time - 8:30 a.m. Specific directions will be included in next week's minutes in case your golf cart doesn't have a GPS.....

RETREAT: Cathy says it's all in place for the 20 members attending, and it's just around the corner! Do you know how fast November 15th will get here?! Anticipating the fabulous time that will be had, we have already committed to the 2012 Retreat, so you can circle your calendars as soon as you buy the new one: October 2, 3 & 4. The cost is expected to be around $150. Advance planning helps you protect the time from those nasty, interferring life issues!

HOT CHICKS QUILT is the theme of our own group of "Cruising Quilters" - and Cathy's daughter came up with a great logo that we'll wear on our shirts. The suggestion is that we adopt it for our full membership, and get shirts for everyone. More on this to come.

CHRISTMAS BLOCKS: Just a reminder - Dec. 6th is the due date for all Christmas themed Blocks and the drawing.

MORE FUTURE FUN: Also mark those new calendars you don't have yet, for the 21st. and 22nd. of January because there is going to be a Riot taking place at the Savannah Center. It could get ugly, but if we're lucky, we'll be able to survive the 50+ Vendor, One Stop Shop Quilters Market that will be taking place. This is a Guild Event, and an awesome idea.
