MULBERRY CHAPTER MINUTES:  AUGUST 23, 2011
1)    President Lucie Verbois acknowledged all August birthdays.  Refreshments were served and the meeting was called to order at 9:20.  Lucie led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

2)    The secretary's report was read. A motion was made by Joan Henry and seconded by Robyn Patterson to accept the minutes as read. The motion was passed.  The treasurer's report was read.  A motion was made by Joan Henry and seconded by Bobbie Welter to accept the report as read.  The motion was passed.

3)    Executive Board:
    a)    There are 40 people who are signed up for the new Sterling Heights Chapter.  Their 1st meeting will be on Sept. 6th.
    b)    Joy Lynch is the chair of the Membership Committee.  She is looking for a volunteer from each chapter to help new chapters set up.  Carolyn Heald volunteered.

4)    Marketplace 2012:
    a)    Ann reported that she has 35 booths reserved for the Marketplace which will take place Jan. 21 - 22, 2012. If you have any ideas for vendors, please see Ann.  There will not be a Chinese auction at the show.

5)    Showcase of  Quilts
    a)    Ann said everything for the showcase is on track.  The steering committee has been meeting on a regular basis and the committee meetings will begin in October.  Folders have been handed out to each committee chairperson.
    b)    Mulberry will be responsible for the Ribbons (Dale is the chair) and the Boutique (Lucie is the chair).  Each chapter is being asked to make a panel (to be used as a row separator) and Gail Richards is the chair for that project.

6)    Chapter Retreat:
    a)    There is one opening and the final payment is due in November.

7)    Fall Retreat:
    a)    Carolyn reported that she has 6 openings.  It is on Oct. 12 - 14th @ Lake Yale.   

8)    Blotto:
    a)    Tonia Brock won the blocks.

9)    Chapter Program report:
    a)    August 30th - Shop Hop.
    b)    Sept. 6th - Book sale
    c)    Sept. 13 -  9:00am - Sunset Pointe chapter located at the Hibiscus Rec Center on Bailey Trail.
    d)    Oct. 4 - Marie from Material Girl will give a demo.

10)    Guild Programs:
    a)    Sept. 6th - Stitching My Memories Trunk Show and a presentation by the president and co-owner of Superior Threads.
    b)    Oct. 4th - Marianne Williamson - "How to add light to your quilts".
    c)    Nov. 1st - Eric Drexler  - Sulky Thread - "Thread Jazz for Quilting and Embellishing" - needle and thread know how.

11)    Guild Classes:
    a)    All guild classes will now be held at the new Sumter County Library on Rt. 466A.
    b)    Sept. 7th - Working with Texture Magic - Patricia Ferguson
    c)    Sept. 16th  - Mary Shara - machine appliqué.
    d)    Oct. 5th - Effect of light on quilts - Marianne Williamson
    e)    Oct. 26th - Perfect Paper Piecing - Dale Angione
    f)    Nov. 3rd - Celtic Knot - Dale Angione
    g)    Nov. 30th - Little Something Jacket - Dale Angione
    h)    Sept. 29th - There will be a free motion quilting class given by Judy Hansen from Deland sponsored by the Allamanda Chapter.  Please check with that chapter if you are interested.

12)    Library:
    a)    Barbara said the book sale will be held on Sept. 6th.  A donation will be accepted for each book purchased (be reasonable) and the proceeds will be used to purchase new books for the library.  If you have any suggestions, please see her.

13)    The fat quarter drawings were won by Ann Moroz, Bobbie Welter and Robyn Patterson. Next month's fat quarter will be PLAID.

14)    Refreshments:
    a)    Madaline needs one more person for November.  She would appreciate it if someone who has not brought in refreshments yet volunteer.
    b)    Mary Ann thanked her and her committee for a great job on the table decorations and refreshments every month.

15)    Shop Hop:  Robyn gave the itinerary for August 30th:
    a)    8:10 am    The bus will arrive at Mulberry Rec Center and we will leave as soon as it is filled.
    b)    10:00am    Arrive Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop in Trenton (10% discount if you do not use their punch card)
    c)    Lunch is on your own.  Suwannee Valley has a café inside the quilt shop.
    d)    12:30 pm    Leave Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop
    e)    1:30 pm    Arrive Fabric Art Shop in Lake City (10% discount on books and fabric & demo)
    f)    3:00 pm    Leave Fabric Art Shop
    g)    3:15 pm    Arrive Amygene's Quilt Shop in Lake City (10% discount and refreshments).
    h)    4:00 pm    Leave Amygene's Quilt Shop
    i)    5:30 pm    Arrive back at Mulberry Rec. Center

16)    Charity Quilts:
    a)    Bobbie announced that the last of the quilts will be donated in October to Hands of Mercy and Hospice.

17)    Chapter Christmas Party:
    a)    Marion Burke will not be available to chair the committee and Diane Cook has volunteered to take over.

18)    Website:
    a)    Lucie reminded everyone of all the information that is available on our website.  The pictures from the monthly guild show 'n tell, classes, minutes from the guild and our chapter are all on the website.  The address is: www.QGOTV.org.  

19)    New Business:
    a)    Voices of Children of North and Central Florida sent us a flyer that they are looking for donations for their silent auction to be held next April.  If anyone is interested, please call Gae @ 352-751-6588.
    b)    Louise @ 352-245-2888 has a 2 year old Husqvarna sewing machine for sale.
    c)    Betty Millard presented next month's blotto:  a butterfly.  You will be given the background fabric.
    d)    The gift basket was won by Marge Jensen.
    e)    Show and Tell featured beautiful quilts, table runners, place mats and other items made by our members.

20)    Meeting was adjourned at 10:05.
