MULBERRY CHAPTER MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 27, 2011
1) President Lucie Verbois acknowledged all September birthdays. Refreshments were served and the meeting was called to order at 9:20. Lucie led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.
2) The secretary's report was read. A motion was made by Joan Henry and seconded by Robyn Patterson to accept the minutes as read. The motion was passed. The treasurer's report was read. A motion was made by Dale Angione and seconded by Carol LaFleur to accept the report as read. The motion was passed.
3) Executive Board:
a) We have 649 paid members.
b) Sterling Heights is our 12th chapter and they have 35 members signed up.
c) The nominating committee reported that they have two candidates for the incoming officers for 2012-2013: President - Alice Nichols (Sea Breeze) and Treasurer - Lucie Verbois (Mulberry).
d) The board reminded everyone that if they have a VIP card from JoAnn's, it needs to be renewed and it can be done on their website.
4) Marketplace 2012 (One Stop Shop Hop):
a) Ann reported that the all the spots for booths are filled for the Marketplace which will take place Jan. 21 - 22, 2012.
b) All the information is on the guild website.
c) Dale Angione volunteered to be the coordinator of the volunteers from Mulberry. We have been assigned to the set up committee. Help will be needed on Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Spouses will be welcome to help.
d) Bookmarks are available if you are going to a quilt shop. Check with Ann because some will be mailed in the near future.
5) Showcase of Quilts
a) Ann said everything for the showcase is on track and the first meeting for all committees will be on Oct. 4th @ 6:00pm.
b) Banner:
i) Gail Richards said that any design and technique can be used but it must be sewn on (not glued) and our chapter name has to be on it. She brought in some designs and a vote was taken on which tree design to use. The ball design won. She will have a design for the banner and label by next meeting. If you have any ideas or would like to volunteer for the committee please see her or Diane Cook.
ii) There was a discussion on whether money from the treasury should be spent on supplies and the following motion was made by Dale Angione: "We will set aside no more than $100.00 from our budget to purchase supplies and fabric for the banner." Donna Blodgett seconded the motion and it was passed by the majority of members.
c) Ribbons: Dale will give a presentation of different designs to the Showcase committee on Oct. 4th. Once approved, we can start on the project.
d) Boutique: Lucie is looking for a replacement for her to serve as the co-chairman of this committee. Marion Burke is the other co-chairman.
6) Chapter Retreat:
a) Final payment is due in November.
7) Fall Retreat:
a) Carolyn will have a meeting next week at our chapter @ 8:30 to go over the details of the retreat.
8) Blotto:
a) The 17 butterfly blocks were won by Madaline Montgomery.
9) Chapter Program report:
a) Oct. 4th - Marie from Material Girl will give a demo.
b) Oct. 18th - Dale Angione - two color appliqué - $10.00. Class will be from 8:30 to 2:00.
10) Guild Programs:
a) Oct. 4th - Marianne Williamson - "How to add light to your quilts".
b) Nov. 1st - Eric Drexler - Sulky Thread - "Thread Jazz for Quilting and Embellishing" - needle and thread know how.
c) Dec. 6th - Christmas Party - Teddy Pruitt will speak. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to serve 6 - 8 people.
d) Jan. 3rd - Ken & Connie Gleason - The story of quilting through the Civil War.
11) Guild Classes:
a) All guild classes will now be held at the new Sumter County Library on Rt. 466A.
b) Oct. 5th - Effect of light on quilts - Marianne Williamson
c) Oct. 28th - Perfect Paper Piecing - Dale Angione
d) Nov. 3rd - Celtic Knot - Dale Angione
e) Nov. 30th - Little Something Jacket - Dale Angione
f) Jan. 10th - Two color appliqué - Dale Angione
g) Jan 23rd - Fabric Collage Jewelry - Debbie Jones - $12. fee and $25. kit.
h) Feb. 8th - Machine Trapunto for the timid quilter - Mark Sherman - $10. fee and $ 40 kit.
i) Mar. 5th or 6th - Quilt as you Go workshops - Marie Anderson of Material Girl Quilt Shop - $25.
j) Apr 4th - Instant Art Quilt - Ellen Lindner - $25.
k) Flyers are on our bulletin board. To sign up for a "visiting teacher's" class, either see Marge Jensen or sign up at the guild meeting. If the teacher is from our guild, you may sign up with the individual teacher at the guild meeting.
12) Library: Barbara Morse thanked everyone for their generosity during the book sale. We raised $100. She is starting to shop so if you have any ideas or requests, please see her.
a) She has received some book donations and wanted to thank the members.
13) The fat quarter drawings were won by Jessie Scott, Lynn Heipershausen, Patty Rizzo and Robyn Patterson. Next month's fat quarter will be BLACK AND WHITE.
14) Chapter Christmas Party:
a) Diane reported that the party will take place on Dec. 13th. She will have a meeting next week @ 8:30 with her committee.
15) UFO's
a) Only 6 people turned in their completed project for this quarter. #3 will be due at the last meeting in December. Lucie Verbois won the drawing.
16) New Business:
a) The nominating committee consists of Carol Knoll, Addie Tavares and Bobbie Welter.
b) Robyn Patterson presented next month's blotto: It is a paper pieced birdhouse and you have two different designs to choose from. You will be given the background fabric. She asked that you leave the paper on when you turn it in.
c) The gift basket was won by Pat Trenor.
d) Show and Tell featured beautiful quilts, table runners, place mats, pillows, wall hangings and other fantastic items made by our members.
17) Meeting was adjourned at 10:17.
