PIECEMAKERS CHAPTER NEWS: MARCH 12, 2011
We want to welcome the quilters who have recently become a part of our chapter.
Several members of the Piecemakers chapter won ribbons at the recent Quilt Show. Ann Vogel won first place in Collaborative Quilts; Mary Shara won first place in Hand Applique; Jan Watkins won Honorable Mention for her Challenge Quilt; and Margaret Kovalchik won two Honorable Mention awards in Collaborative Quilts - one for Hand/Machine and one for Machine only.
Several members are now involved in making Mystery Quilts - this one is called "on the Road Again." We are all looking forward to seeing just how these quilts will turn out as they are made with the same pattern in many different fabrics. With the title of our mystery quilt, it is appropriate that several Piecemakers purchased fabric for their quilts at our recent trip to the quilt shop in Rockledge, FL. We spent an enjoyable day, along with several of our friends from other chapters.
We are now involved in making quilts for the VA Nursing Home in Lake City FL. This has long been a charity project for our group.
And for some more recent news:
The Piecemakers President, Mary Shara, has achieved national recognition by having a quilt accepted in the American Quilter's Society annual show in Paducah, Kentucky. The quilt, "Forming a Nation," is her own design and features 72 squares depicting ancient Japanese family crests. Although Mary did not win any awards, just being selected to among 380 quilts is a great honor.
Those that participated in the Mystery Quilt have completed their work, with lovely results. The chapter continues to work on Veteran's quilts.
