Quilting Guild of The Villages July 2011 Executive Board Minutes

The meeting of the Executive Board was held at Saddlebrook on July 19, 2011.  The meeting was called to order by President Jeanette Flint at 3 PM.

The secretary's report was read by Dale Angione.  The motion to approve the minutes was made by Regina Wolfe and seconded by Marilyn Paluszak.

The treasurer's report was read by Beth Bender.  We now have 632 paid members.  The report was filed for review.

Micki MacCumbee the Vice President in charge of programs read a list of the programs offered by both in house instructors and outside teachers.  The August meeting will be presented by Whippoorwill Station and the topic is Getting a Jump on the Holidays.  Micki congratulated the ladies for compiling a comprehensive history of the guild and for a wonderful presentation of such at the July meeting.  The next meeting of the program committee will be on July 26 at Laurel Manor.  Micki distributed a list of all upcoming classes and programs to each chapter.

Quilt Show chairwoman Carole Schroeder reported that there was no new information about the 2013 show.  She did say that the entrance fee will be $7 for admission and no charge for guild members who show their guild membership card.

Vendor Showcase 2012 chairwoman Ann Moroz has verified the dates as January 21 and 22, 2012 for the show.  The admission is $7 for non guild members and $5 for Guild members per day.  She has contracts for 21 vendors already with a maximum of 50 allowed and she also has received money for adverting space in the program.

Old Business:
Jeanette said the dates for the quilt presentations at McCall's are August 14 and 19, 2011.  She would appreciate volunteers for demonstrations and set-up.

One member of the board is needed to chair the nominating committee and 2 members from each chapter are asked to work on the committee.  This year we need to fill the positions of President and Treasurer.

New Business:
Mary Shara mentioned the long membership lists.  It is recommended that you do not have to make a copy of the list each month but rather just pencil in the new additions.

Jeanette said that she was contacted by the recreation department and that the new Sterling Heights Recreation Center will be open on August 3 but there will not be any new groups meeting there before September.  Jeanette or Joy Lynch will take care of advertising the new chapter in the newspaper.

There was a lengthy discussion concerning the donation quilt tickets. A motion was proposed by Marilyn Crosby to not have a mandatory $5 added to the Guild dues to cover the cost of 6 tickets for the donation quilt for each member.  The motion was seconded by Nancy Myers and carried by an 18 to 4 vote.  The executive board members were charged with returning to their chapters and asking for help in selling tickets for the donation quilt.

Tonia Brock moved that the meeting by adjourned at 3:55 PM. The motion was seconded by Marilyn Crosby.

Respectfully submitted,

Dale Angione, Acting Secretary
