Quilting Guild of The Villages August 16, 2011 Executive Board Minutes
President Jeanette Flint opened the meeting at 3:00 p.m. at the Saddlebrook Recreation Center.
The Secretary's report was read by Dale Angione. A motion to approve the minutes was proposed by Regina Wolfe and seconded by Ann Moroz.
The Treasurer's report was read by Beth Bender and it was filed for review. We now have 635 paid members.
Vice-President Micki MacCumbee gave the report on the programs being offered and handed out a summary of the report to each chapter. The September Guild meeting will feature Stitching My Memories with a special presentation by Bob Purcell the president of Superior Threads. The October meeting will present Marianne Williamson, Adding Light to Your Quilts; January will have a Civil War theme; February we will have Mark Sherman and his presentation on Machine Trapunto; March will bring Marie Andersen with a Quilt as you Go project; and April will feature Ellen Lindner with an Instant Art Quilt. The next meeting of the Program Committee will take place on August 23 at 3:00 p.m.
Carole Schroeder, the quilt show co-chairwoman, reported that the first meeting of the committee chairpersons will be on October 4th at 6:00 p.m. at Laurel Manor.
Ann Moroz, the chairwoman for the Vendor Showcase reported that 32 booths have been rented and she has deposited $825 in ad revenue. She has asked for any information about possible new vendors for embellishments, yarns, art quilts etc. be turned into her. Lucie Verbois proposed a motion that any funds obtained from the vendor showcase be deposited in the Guild treasury general fund to be allocated at a future date. The motion was seconded by Regina Wolfe and passed by the board.
Jeanette Flint reminded us that a Nominating Committee is needed so that candidates for the position of president ant treasurer can be found. Mary Shara and Pat Julian will chair the committee with the following members: Jo Loder, Cathy Barlow, Carolyn Heald, Tonya Brock, Jean Patterson, Helen Rogers, Kathy Krausnick, Maureen Chiasson, Judy Osborn, Vicki Sheppard, Martha Fernez and Janet Myers.
There was a discussion about baskets provided by each chapter for the vendor showcase and about gifts for new chapters but after much discussion the motions did not carry.
Joy Lynch, membership chairwoman asked each chapter to check their membership lists and give her any corrections. She also asked for 5 volunteers to work on the membership committee with her. Joy has prepared special nametags for the new members of Sterling Heights and she asks that we all reach out to the new members at the Guild meetings. Sterling Heights will have their first meeting on September 6th.
Jacky Whitehead asked for volunteers to do demonstrations at the chapter level. Demonstrators will not be paid for their demonstrations but she pointed out that the demonstration could lead to a class at which time the instructor will get $10 per student.
It has been decided that any sales at a Guild program will only take place at the end of the program.
The Guardian Ad Litem committee has contacted Jeanette and asked for donations of items and/or quilts that can be used as a fundraiser for their auction on January 20, 2012.
Jeanette reported that the show at McCall's was not well attended however the ladies that were present had a good time.
A motion to close the meeting was proposed by Lucie Verbois and seconded by Marilyn Crosby. The meeting ended at 4:05 PM.
