Quilting Guild of The Villages October 18, 2011 Executive Board Minutes

The Board of the Quilting Guild of The Villages met October 18th, 2011.  The meeting was called to order by President Jeanette Flint at 3:00 p.m.  Jeanette  asked which chapters had openings and they are Allamanda, The B's, Friendship Star, Laurel Manor, Mulberry and Piecemakers.

The secretary's report was read and a motion made by Judy Short, seconded by Lucie Verbois to accept the report.  Beth Bender gave the treasurer's report.  There are 649 paid guild members.

Micki MacCumbee reported on Programs.  Mary Shara will have a machine quilting class January 20th. Eric Drexler from Sulky Threads will be the speaker at our November 1st guild meeting.  Mark Sherman will have three machine trapunto classes in February if we get four more sign-ups. The March program will be Quilt As You Go by Marie Anderson of Material Girl Quilt Shop.  Early sign-ups are encouraged.

Ann Moroz reported on the 2013 Quilt Showcase.  Plans are developing well, assignments have been made and the next committee meeting will be in January.

Ann also reported on the 2012 Marketplace Event.  Fifty-one booths have been rented.  A chairperson is needed to lead the publicity/marketing committee members.  Ann had publicity bookmarks available for distribution.  Lucie Verbois, volunteer coordinator for the event reported the Village Cheerleaders will handle food service on Saturday and the Mulberry Chapter will handle food for Sunday.  Lucie has been notified of chapter volunteer coordinators from Allamanda, The B's, Chatham, Lake Miona, Mulberry and Sunset Pointe.  Other chapters should notify Lucie of their volunteer coordinator by email to luciev@comcast.net.

Lucie Verbois reported for the nominating committee.  Election of officers can be by hand vote per the by-laws since there is only once candidate for each open office.   Suggestions have been made to ease the burden of Treasurer and Vice President/Program Chair duties in the future.  There were additional suggestions and discussion but this item was tabled for the 2012 officers to address.

President Flint will look into the process for registering the Guild to participate in The Villages Christmas Parade.

Teddy Pruitt will be our speaker at the December Christmas party.  Members should bring finger food to share. Chapters should give an approximate attendance count to their program committee member so paper products and setup can be planned.  Jackie Whitehead will research the cost of Teddy doing quilt appraisals prior to the meeting for anyone interested.

Hosting duties for 2012 will be determined at the November board meeting.

Two bus trips were announced.  Seabreeze will go to Trenton on Friday, November 11th. The cost is $20. Email alicemae47@comcast.net if you are interested.  Laurel Manor will be going to Rockledge Tuesday, October 25th.  Call Jeannie Meyer at 302 242 3222 if you are interested.

Jackie Whitehead moved to adjourn the meeting seconded by Judy Porter.

Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
