The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held April 5, 2011.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Micki MacCumbee.
Micki announced that our President, Jeannette Flint, was called out of town due to the illness of her elderly mother and that our thoughts are with her and her family.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.
Treasurer Beth Bender announced that $9,480 was raised for charity at the 2011 Showcase of Quilts. This money represents income from the sale of tickets from the two Opportunity Quilts and the items donated to the Silent Auction. The following representatives from the three local food pantries representing Lake, Marion and Sumter counties were on hand to receive checks in the amount of $3,160.00 each: Don Huggins from the Wildwood Food Pantry, Carrol Neal from Lady Lake Christian Food Pantry and Jim Johnson from St. Theresa's Soup Kitchen.
David Taylor, an award winning art quilter from Steamboat Springs, CO, then gave a humorous, informative presentation which included a slide show of his internationally recognized applique work and a display of some of his quilts.
The secretary's report was read by Joyce McKee and Micki MacCumbee read the treasurer's report.
Marilyn Paluszak from the Alamanda Chapter gave a live demonstration of the new and improved Quilting Guild of The Villages website she is creating. Marilyn thanked Don Crosby for his work as past webmaster and then she walked the membership through the steps to navigate the new website. The website should be live shortly and the site name remains www.QGOTV.org or www.QuiltingGuildofTheVillages.org.
There were over 20 items shown at show and tell.
Three winners shared fifty dollars from the 50/50 drawing.
Each member received a copy of the program and workshop calendar through March 2013.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee
Secretary
