The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held May 3, 2011.
The meeting was called to order by President Jeanette Flint.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.
The April secretary's report was read by Joyce McKee.
The treasurer's report was given by Beth Bender. There are 623 paid guild members. Thank you notes were read from the Wildwood Food Pantry and St. Theresa's Soup Kitchen thanking the guild for donations presented to them in April.
President Flint announced that Joy Lynch has volunteered to be the membership chairperson for the guild. Joy asked each of the chapter presidents to send her their individual chapter membership requirements so she can have this information for prospective new members.
Micki MacCumbee gave the Program Committee report. Sign-ups are being taken for Mary Shara's machine appliqué class in September, Marianne Williamson's class on light and fabric art in October and Mark Sherman's class on machine trapunto to be held next February.
Lisa-Marie Sanders was our guest speaker for the evening. Her topic was 'Everything I needed to know in life, I learned from quilting.' She gave an entertaining presentation which included showing many of her quilts and spoke about her book Quilting with Aliens.
Suzy Golden of the Seabreeze chapter showed a color board and some of the light fabrics to be used in the king size charity quilt to be sewn for the 2013 Showcase of Quilts. Each chapter has been asked to donate twelve batik fat quarters by Tuesday 5/17. The fabric will be cut and the chapters will be asked to sew three or four blocks by October 1st. The Guild will have the quilt machine quilted and the goal for completion is January 2012.
Eleven members participated in Show and Tell and four prizes were awarded in the 50/50.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
