The regular meeting of The Quilting Guild of The Villages was held November 1, 2011 at Laurel manor Recreation Center.
President Jeanette Flint called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.
Jeanette Flint then called the two candidates running for office to stand. Since there were no opposing candidates, written ballots were not required and Alice Nicholas was elected president and Lucie Verbois was elected treasurer by the membership present. They will serve for two years and will be installed at the December meeting.
The secretary's report was approved as read and the treasurer's report was given. There are 689 paid Guild members.
Seabreeze Chapter displayed the finished quilt top for the 2012 Showcase raffle quilt which will benefit charity. It was completed earlier than expected and will now be sent to the quilter for completion.
Micki MacCumbee, Program Chair, introduced Eric Drexler, educator from Sulky Threads who gave an entertaining, informative presentation on using threads to add dimension and beauty to our quilts. Eric showed many samples of his work describing the types of threads used to create the quilt art.
Jeanette Flint announced the hospital needs a cover for the piano. Anyone interested in sewing one should contact Jeanette.
The Quilting B's have a bus trip November 8th to The Quilting Place in Rockledge. The cost is $19 for anyone interested in joining this group.
There were three show and tell presentations as well as a display from Seabreeze Chapter of twelve quilts they made for the Florida Sheriff's Youth ranch. Fifty-fifty winners were
selected and prizes awarded from donations from Sulky Threads.
President Flint thanked all who helped her during her term as president.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
