The meeting was called to order by the President, Paula Mooney, at 1:00 p.m.
Secretary's Report - We dispensed with the reading of the minutes since they were previously distributed to the members via email. A printed copy of the minutes is available for review at each meeting if anyone is interested.
Treasurer's Report - The checking account balance on May 10th was $2,482.31. Receipts during the last 2 months totaled $1,242.00, and expenses for the same period were $663.57. The ending balance on July 12th is $3,060.74.
Membership Committee - We had 1 new member join over the last two months, and we currently have 75 members. The updated roster will be distributed with the meeting minutes. There are a few phone number changes, so please review the roster for changes.
Program Committee - Sharon Musch reviewed upcoming Guild programs and classes. Please check the Guild website (www.qgotv.org) regularly to get the latest information regarding classes. If you are interested in attending any of these classes, please contact Sharon at sharonmusch@comcast.net or see her at a meeting to register.
Community Service - We had one member (Terry Murphy) donate a baby quilt in June. Thanks, Terry!
Old Business:
1. Guild By-Laws Revisions - The proposed, revised by-laws for the Guild will be voted upon by the membership at the August 2nd meeting at Laurel Manor at 7 p.m. The revisions include some grammatical changes as well as introducing some flexibility regarding Guild meeting times.
2. Retreat - Monique shared that we currently have 15 members registered for the retreat to be held on February 21-23, 2012 at the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park. If you are planning on attending the retreat, please contact her (billfoley@bellsouth.net) for a registration form. A deposit of $50 will hold your spot! This is a great event, and if there is any way you can make it, you should try! There is good food and plenty of time for sewing and getting to know your fellow quilters a bit better!
3. Christmas Lunch - Dee will be sending an email to those who have expressed interest in being on the committee to host the luncheon. If you'd like to help out and haven't yet
New Business:
1. October 2010 Guild Retreat - Carolyn Heald stopped by to share information regarding a Guild retreat that she is coordinating. Registration is open to any Guild member. The retreat will be held at Lake Yale October 12-14, 2011. Participants are able to arrive at 9 a.m. on the 12th and quilt until 4 p.m. on the 14th. The cost is $140 for a double room (you may select your room mate) or $170 for a single room. There will be no classes or formal teaching scheduled for the retreat. It is meant to be an opportunity for you to finish some UFOs or complete some Christmas projects, and at the same, you'll have the opportunity to meet new friends from other chapters. Several Allamanda members attended this retreat last year, and it was great fun! If you have the time available, please consider joining us! If you are interested, Carolyn needs to know ASAP. She’ll be at the next couple of meetings to take your registration and deposit of at least $50. Seasonal residents can pay later as long as they notify Carolyn of their interest in attending by August 9th. Carolyn’s contact information is:
Mail: 1575 Hartsville Trail

2. 4-H Club - Janice Tingle is coordinating this community service effort. She plans to contact the Sumter County Extension office to see how we would go about creating a 4-H club that would teach children how to sew and quilt. Our understanding is that the Extension Office surveys children in the October timeframe to determine interest in 4-H. Janice will also be exploring possible meeting locations, days/times for the meeting, and the number of members we could handle. There was a discussion about the possible use of treasury funds to purchase a few inexpensive sewing machines and supplies for this group to use. A decision on this will be made once we have more details around the project.
3. Marketplace 2012 - Marilyn Paluszak shared information about this Guild event which would be a one stop shop hop held at the Savannah Center in the opposite years of the Showcase. The date for the first Marketplace will be January 21-22, 2012. Members with a valid membership card would pay $5 for admission, while the cost to the general public would be $7. Plans are to include vendors relative to other craft areas as well (i.e., stitching, knitting, crochet, etc.). If you have a specific vendor that you would like to see invited to participate, please let Marilyn know (mpaluszak@msn.com). She will pass the information along to Ann Moroz, who is coordinating this event.
4. Guild / Chapter Dues - Dues will be collected for 2012 beginning in November. New members in November and December will be paying dues for 2012. Our chapter portion of the dues is currently $10, but the total amount is currently unclear because the Executive Board has not made a determination on the Guild membership fee of whether or not to charge members for donation quilt tickets. Once the Executive Board makes a determination about 2012 Guild dues and donation quilt tickets, members will be notified of the total cost.
5. Allamanda Storage Area - We are very fortunate that the Allamanda Recreation Center staff permits us to store some bulky items at the facility so that we don’t have to haul them back and forth to meetings. We are the only club that has the permission to do this. In order to maintain this privilege, we need to minimize the accumulation of excess “stuff.” If you plan to donate something, please check with an officer before leaving it in the room or the bins. Don’t just leave it for someone else to figure out what to do with it. Members who lead certain efforts (i.e., 4-H, Christmas luncheon, etc.) may need to find storage space for items pertaining to their effort.
6. Donation Quilt Tickets - A discussion around how this has been handled in the past ensued. SeaBreeze is planning to take the 2013 donation quilt to various venues and will sell tickets throughout the year. Tickets would also be available to all Guild members to sell in their neighborhoods or in groups to which they belong. The members present today preferred this method of ticket sales versus obligating each Guild member to purchase tickets as part of their dues. Micki will share Allamanda's preference at the next Executive Board meeting.
7. Mancuso World Quilt Show - Florida III - Jo Loder shared a flyer advertising the Mancuso show in West Palm Beach November 10-12, 2011. Mancuso shows are huge and great fun! The Lake County Quilt Guild usually coordinates a bus trip for this show, and we will share information with you as we hear it. Attached to the minutes is a scanned image of the front of the flyer [Webmaster: file also included at Allamanda Show-n-Tell]. The entire flyer with many more details will be posted on our bulletin board on the welcome table. If you are interested, please ask the Rec Center staff to make a copy of the entire package for you and leave the original for others to review.
Several beautiful items were shared with the group during the show-and-tell time. Check out the pictures when they’re up on the website! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members! The meeting was adjourned at 2:31 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
