The meeting was called to order by the President, Paula Mooney, at 1:02 p.m.

Old Business:
1. 4-H Community Service Project – Carol Fox shared an update on this project. WalMart donated $50 toward sewing kits that were made for the group. There are 5 girls in the group, and only 1 has prior sewing experience. They are a nice group of girls who are polite and eager to learn how to sew, and they worked on a pumpkin decoration at the first meeting. The girls have elected officers. Carol asked for and obtained a couple of volunteers to help out at the November 17 meeting. The project will be a pillowcase.
2. Retreat – There are 22 members registered for the retreat. The retreat will be held on February 21-23, 2012 at the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park. If you are interested in attending the retreat, Monique needs to know as soon as possible. Double occupancy is $165, and single occupancy is $210. Please contact Monique via email (billfoley@bellsouth.net) if you are interested in registering for one of the few remaining spots.
3. Allamanda Banner for Showcase 2013 – Marlene Jensch is looking for a committee to help her design and create our chapter banner. Please contact Marlene (mjensch@aol.com) if you are interested in participating in this effort.
4. Marketplace 2012 (One Stop Shop Hop) – Dona reported that all our volunteer spots are filled, but she is looking for a list of substitutes that could be called if we have last minute cancellations. Our job is to sell armbands at the door, and you only have to do it for one 2-hour shift. If you’re able to help with this, please contact Dona Black at dona918@gmail.com. Don’t miss all the latest information about the Marketplace event on the Guild’s website!
5. Holiday Luncheon – Dee Dean reported that she has 37 members signed up for the luncheon scheduled for December 6th. She is continuing to take reservations, but if you’re interested, please let her know as soon as possible. Final counts will need to be turned in to Red Sauce, the caterer, prior to the luncheon. The cost is $15, and checks should be made payable to Allamanda Quilters. There will be plenty of door prizes and games, so don’t miss out on all the fun! Dee can be contacted via email at 2ddean@comcast.net.
6. Allamanda Block of the Month Blotto (A-BOMB) – This month’s A-BOMB winner was Regina Bozza. For December, the block will feature a tree block. The white background and the tree trunk were provided with the pattern.
7. 50/50 – Pat O’Connell won $10, and Barb Dunn won $6.
New Business:
1. Dee Dean suggested that the chapter purchase several reel-type extension cords to be used during our meetings. It is sometimes difficult for everyone to plug everything in to work efficiently in the meeting room. After a brief discussion, Regina Bozza moved that the chapter purchase 6 extension cords. Marilyn Paluszak seconded the motion. The motion passed. Dee will take care of purchasing the extension cords.
2. There was a brief discussion regarding the layout of tables for our sit-and-sew sessions. A new schematic will be provided to the Rec Center. Members are encouraged to make suggestions if they have a better way to arrange tables to accommodate all our members.
3. There was a brief discussion about inviting members of the Sterling Heights chapter to an upcoming meeting. It was decided to invite them to next Tuesday’s meeting when Marilyn will be sharing a PowerPoint presentation covering information from Marianne R. Williamson’s class about creating light in your quilts. Paula will contact Sterling Heights and share our invitation.
4. Results of the election were presented by Marilyn. Cathy Barlow will be the new President, and Dee Dean will be the new Treasurer. Both terms are for 2012-2013. A secretary will need to be appointed to fulfill Cathy’s current position that runs through 2012.
Announcements
1. Cathy shared information about the recent trip to Houston for the Quilt Festival. Additional Sulky thread pamphlets were left on the give-away table for anyone who was interested.
2. Sharon Hannahs brought in some books that were donated to her, and they were place on the give-away table for anyone to take.
3. The November-December issue of the Country Register is on the Welcome table.
4. Cathy is taking reservations for the LaTiDah luncheon hosted by Quilting Sisters. The luncheon will be on February 11, 2012. There will be a boutique, basketmania, and silent auction, as well as a doll exhibit and special display of fashions from previous fashion shows. This is usually a sold out event, and Cathy will be submitting our reservations on December 8th so that we can sit together. Please contact Cathy (cathybarlow56@yahoo.com) as soon as possible if you are interested.
There were many interesting and beautiful items at this month’s show-and-tell. Check out the pictures when they’re up on the website! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members!
Carol Fox made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Carolyn Page seconded it. The meeting was adjourned at 2:04 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
