PIECEMAKERS CHAPTER NEWS: JANUARY 2012
♥ February, the month of hearts and roses, of remembering those we hold dear to our hearts.
One of the many things the Piecemakers hold dear to their hearts is the Veterans that have helped to keep our country safe and free. February was the first of a scheduled monthly "work-day" at which members work together to create quilts for the men and women who served our country. In addition, any members wishing to work on these quilts at home may do so. The chapter provides the fabric to members, who are free to create patterns and designs of their choice within the confines of the needed measurements. They can be as simple as block piecing or as complicated as the member desires. Feel free to view the photos of the work session.
These months' demonstrations were presented by Esther Meinhardt, Mary Shara, and Barbara Morrow. Esther brought in several "show and tell" items displaying Valentines and demonstrated how to create an easy to do Valentine's trivet. Mary Shara did a brief introduction about the topic of thread. She explained about the importance of using a thread that is not polyester covered with cotton and she will be gathering some information about threads to share with members in the near future. Barbara Morrow demonstrated how to make "Brainy Baby Ball" a soft cloth ball for the little ones. This is a great project to do while watching a movie or television show. Two lucky winners took home a brainy ball.
Show and tells this month included various quilt patterns and even an antique quilt belonging to one of the members. Members discussed how valuable it is to share quilts we have made from our first to our finest.
The snowbirds have already started to head north so we had to say goodbye to 2 members. We will miss them but know they will keep in touch and up to date using the website and emails sent out by out chapter secretary, Brenda Barkley.
