Quilting Guild of The Villages April 2012 Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board of The Quilting Guild of The Villages met April 17, 2012 at Saddlebrook Recreation Center.  The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 3:05 p.m.

After roll call, the Secretary's report was read and accepted.

Lucie Verbois gave the Treasurer's report for March.

Micki MacCumbee asked the Board to remind their Chapter members that we are taking registration all summer for the fall workshops.  Programs for 2013 are being developed.

There was considerable discussion on how to assist in-house teachers with sign-ups as some teachers are not getting adequate participation to hold their class.  In-house teachers currently attend the monthly guild meeting to advertise their classes.  They can use the program reps to communicate their classes as well.  The information on in-house classes is made available on the website when it is provided to the webmaster.  Anyone interested in being a teacher should contact their program rep.  Micki will ask the Program Committee to again review the in-house teacher process.

Webmaster Marilyn Paluszak reported on the website. Everything is going well.

Membership Chair Joy Lynch reported on the sample pins for 20 years of membership and past president nametags. Joyce Doig moved to accept the design for the nametags seconded by Jeannette Flint.  Joy will research the cost of the nametags in color rather than blue and white.  Since there are currently no members approaching 20 year membership, no immediate action is necessary on the pins although the design of the pin was well received.  Joy reported the Guild now has 713 members!

Ann Moroz reported on Marketplace 2014.  We will not be allowed to run electric cords at The Savannah Center the way we did at the 2012 Marketplace and therefore she asked permission to look into another venue to enable as many vendors as possible.  Ann was authorized to research other venues for the Marketplace.

Carol Schroeder reported on Showcase 2013.  The layout had to change again due to the electrical cord issues.  Currently we can have only 15 vendors due to the limitation.  Anyone interested in obtaining a Challenge Quilt packet should contact Gwen Pearsall at 750 4097 or Jeannine Haller at 753 2813.  Admission for the show will be $7.00 for the public.  Quilting Guild of The Villages members will be admitted free with their Guild ID.  In March, we took in $1,700 selling tickets for the charity quilt.

Alice Nicholas requested that the group hosting the monthly guild meeting have one additional person available to sell charity quilt tickets at the door.

No one has stepped forward to assume the position of Historian.  Joy Lynch will contact the Mark Twain Library to see if they will take the history scrapbooks.  Tonya Brock moved we table further discussion on the Historian position until we get a report from Joy.

Staples Copy and Print Centers will give a 10% discount to Guild members.  Please notify them you are a Guild member when placing your copy order or use phone number 352 259-2305 as the account to receive the points.

Announcements: June 2nd the American Legion Post 347 will have a Blackberry Festival and vendors and crafters are wanted.  Call 750-2099 for more information.

Our Guild is a member of the Sunshine State Quilt Association and that group's website, as well as The National Quilting Association website, has a place for publicizing charity quilts.  Our charity quilt has been appraised at $2,225.

Joy Lynch moved we adjourn at 4:05 p.m. seconded by Regina Wolf and carried.

Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
