Quilting Guild of The Villages July 2012 Executive Board Meeting
The Executive Board of The Quilting Guild of The Villages met July 17, 2012 at Saddlebrook Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 3:05 pm.
After roll call, the Secretary's Report for June was read. It was noted that the minutes should read only the Quilt Frames were to be borrowed, not the whole system.
Lucy Verbois gave the Treasurer's Report.
Micki MacCumbee gave the Program Committee Report. The agenda for August has changed a little. We are giving 15 minutes to Julie and Diane, two ladies who are representing the Patriot Service Dog Organization. They are requesting dog beds from our guild and they will explain exactly what their organization does.
Standing Committee Reports:
- Marilyn Paluszak, Webmaster, reported that her computer had "taken a vacation" and was expected to be up and running in the near future.
- Joy Lynch reported that we now have 737 members. She will see the lady at the library next Monday regarding the scrapbooks. If housing the scrapbooks at the library does not work out, Joy recommended we put them in storage and take them out each Dec. for viewing.
- Ann Moroz stated there was nothing new to report on Marketplace 2014.
- Carole Schroeder said there is a lull right now in Showcase 2013. The next committee meeting is Aug. 7th. She also reported that as of now the proceeds from the Charity Quilt was a disappointing $2,120.
Unfinished Business:
President Nicholas asked if the activities list previously provided by each Chapter proved helpful and the response was yes. An idea was presented by Marilyn Paluszak to change the Bio's on each Chapter's Website to include some of the charity projects they do and include names of the Charities.
Classes by in-house members were discussed. Jackie Whitehead was going to compile a list of volunteers who would like to teach classes but she is moving to Ohio Aug. 3rd so will not be able to do this. It was suggested that we combine several in-house teachers who have 30 minute or less techniques to teach and consolidate several mini-demos to be included in one class where you can bring home a finished project or sample and have something to show for your day's effort. President Nicholas asked that each President make up a list of volunteers who want to teach something from each chapter and e-mail the information to her before the August 7th Board Meeting.
President Nicholas reminded the Presidents to sign for their 2013 facility permit.
New Business:
President Nicholas passed out two letters from two different quilting venues inviting us to their show and expo. "A Garden of Quilting Delights" Nov. 10, 2012 in Tampa and Broward Quilt Expo Mar. 14, 2013 in Fort Lauderdale.
Mary Shara introduced us to an Aurofil-like thread made in Italy that can be bought in bulk at a reasonable cost.
A motion was made by Jeanette Flint to adjourn the meeting at 4:15 pm seconded by Ellen Koenig.
Respectfully Submitted,
Judy Porter, Acting Secretary
