Quilting Guild of The Villages September 2012 Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board of The Quilting Guild of The Villages met September 18, 2012 at Saddlebrook Recreation Center.  The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 3:00 pm.

In President Nicholas' opening comments she reviewed a number of items discussed at a recent meeting of resident lifestyle volunteers.  Officers should review their permits for 2013 and waivers will be required to be signed by everyone participating in a recreation department activity.  If chapters have non-resident guest presenters, a form needs to be completed and turned in to the recreation center.  Each chapter must have a copy of the Treasurer's report available to members.

The Secretary's report was accepted as read.  A motion was made by Jeannette Flint, seconded by Carolyn Heald that the Secretary's report be emailed to all Chapter Presidents and Members at Large thereby eliminating the need for the report to be read at each meeting.  This motion was carried.

Lucie Verbois gave the Treasurer's report.

Micki MacCumbee reported on programs.  The February Sulky Sit and Sew sign-up will begin at the October Guild meeting.  The exact date and location are to be determined.

Linda Vinsnaw's workshops will be Doodling November 6th and Inking November 7th.

Drawing for 2013 Guild meeting hosting duties will be conducted at the October Board meeting.

The October class, Focus on Large Prints by Margie Engel still needs participants.

Joy Lynch, Membership Chair, reported we now have 744 Guild members. After discussion, Joy moved we keep the Guild portion of membership dues at $5.00 seconded by Mary Ellen Mineo and carried.  Membership dues are due December 1st.  Joy needs the 2013 membership lists from the chapters by December 15 and membership cards will be ready by January 1st.  Everyone was asked to comply with this schedule.

Ann Moroz reported she has selected a venue for Marketplace 2014 but cannot reserve it until January.

Carole Schroeder reminded us that quilt entry applications for Showcase 2013 are due the first week of October.  Quilts can be in progress and not complete and still be submitted.  Currently we need members to submit quilts as submissions to date are quite low. Please encourage your members to submit their work.  $3,219 has been collected in charity quilt money.   Our quilt will be displayed at the Deland Quilt Show and there are still openings for members to sell tickets.  Call Sharon Musch at 750 5921 if you are going to the show and can assist at our table for an hour or so.

Carole Schroeder reported on the insurance requirements for our storage facility.  Joy Lynch moved we purchase the minimum $2,000 worth of coverage with $100 deductible for approximately $8.00 per month and self-insure above that amount.  This was seconded and carried.

Alice announced that past-president badges will be given out at our December Guild meeting where 10 year pins will also be awarded.

Lucie Verbois reported that there is one candidate each for the two open positions of Secretary and Vice President.
President Nicholas had a written request from a candidate running for the CDD5 board who wanted to speak to our guild.  It was agreed this would not be allowed.

Alice received an announcement of a June 2013 trip to Ireland for the second annual International Quilt Festival.

Alice will submit a request for a new Chapter for the soon to open Bradenton Rec Center and this will be for an afternoon chapter.

Jeannette Flint had a sample spool of polyester Pro Quilt thread.  An individual is willing to donate a large amount of this thread to the guild if anyone has use for it. See Jeannette if you are interested.

Joy Lynch moved we adjourn at 4:25pm seconded by Donna Kudner and carried.

Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee
Secretary
