The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held August 7, 2012 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
The regular meeting of The Quilting Guild of The Villages was held at Laurel Manor Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 7:05 p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.
The Secretary's report was accepted as read.
President Nicholas reminded members the Treasurer's report is available for any member who would like to review it.
Each chapter was then welcomed by the president.
The 2013 Showcase Charity Quilt was on display at the back of the meeting room. Members were encouraged to purchase and sell donation tickets to raise funds for The Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties. Three thousand dollars has been raised toward our goal of $7,500. Members can check the QGOTV.org website to follow progress toward that goal.
Alice announced that Elaine Tomazewski of the Quilting B's won first prize at a recent American Sewing Guild event. She won second place as well for her machine embroidery.
Our guest speaker for the evening was from the Belleview office of the Patriot Service Dog group. Julie explained how the dogs were trained in the final stages by inmates in the prison system. These dogs eventually assist veterans needing help because of mobility restrictions or loss of limb. The group needs light weight quilted blankets for the dog's sleeping areas. Mats 48x30 or 42x28 would be ideal and patriotic or themed fabrics would be perfect. Anyone willing to donate a quilt for this organization can call the Patriotic Service Dog organization at 352 307- 2524 or visit their website for more information at www.patriotservicedogs.org.
There were five show and tell participants and seven 50/50 winners.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
