CON KERR CANCER
We won't soon forget the fun we had making pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer and Judy Buchner's appreciative comments as she accepted all 2,900 of them!  We're not sure what the total weight was, but at ConKerr Cancer's fair value estimate of $7.50 per pillowcase, our March 2014 offering equated to $20,175
Judy, from the Florida Tampa Bay Chapter of ConKerr Cancer, said that with our donation, they'll be able to provide a pillowcase to every child at Camp Boggy Creek this year.  The Tampa Bay Chapter also provides pillowcases to All Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital of Tampa, Tampa General Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

ROTARY CLUB OF THE VILLAGES
Many thanks to Gay Harris, the new President of SeaBreeze Chapter, for passing along this request for donations.  Gary Kadow, Executive Director of SOS (Supporting our Soldiers) Program will gladly accept quilts.  He expressed a desperate plea for donations for the kids in the Ocala National Forest.  They desperately need warm clothing, PJs, gently used blankets, lap quilts and more.  Many members, individually and through group projects, have sent quilts through local church groups and Camp SoZo but there is a never ending need.

PATRIOT SERVICE DOGS
If you missed the August 2012 Guild meeting, this 501(c)(3) corporation is looking for small quilts to line dog crates (gifts qualify for charitable deduction).  They have a program with a correctional facility in north Marion County; they supply the crates and the prisoners supply the training.  The pups are housed in crates and the liners need to be thin, not dog-bed thickness.  To read about the program and to find appropriate sizes and styles, look at the Show-n-Tell photo section from August 2012 Guild meeting.

QUILTS OF VALOR
Quilts of Valor began in 2003, a truly volunteer, grass-roots organization, that has become a national movement. To date, over 86,000 quilts have been donated to our service men and women. All of the quilts are made by volunteers, by individuals, by clubs, by guilds, by anyone who would like to participate in this truly amazing service. After the quilt top is completed, the top along with the backing and batting is sent to a longarmer for quilting.  So many hands come together to make these beautiful and meaningful creations that are then sent to an unknown individual as recognition for service to our country.
Kathy Gricius, Lake Miona Chapter, will act as a contact for any Guild member.

VOICES FOR CHILDREN / Guardian ad Litem
Voices for Children of North Central Florida, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation serving the children of Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter counties.  Much like the Guild, this organization is comprised of all volunteers.  Their mission is to "support children who have a Guardian ad Litem assigned to them and who have been placed in the custody of the state in the Fifth Judicial Circuit.  To support recruitment, training and recognition of the volunteers who advocate for these children."  As expected, holidays are often the toughest time for children so Voices for Children provides toys, clothing and gifts directly through their Angel Project.  Voices for Children relies exclusively on grants, fundraisers and donations (gifts qualify for charitable deduction); and the Guardian ad Litem program is always seeking volunteers.
