The regular meeting of The Quilting Guild of The Villages was held January 3, 2012 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
President Alice Nicholas called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.
The secretary's report was accepted as read. Lucie Verbois gave the treasurer's report. At year-end 2011, there were 694 paid Guild members. The Treasurer also reported that during 2011 the individual chapters made monetary donations in the amount of $3,543.31 and 782 quilts were given to deserving organizations.
President Nicholas welcomed all members to the first meeting of 2012 and also welcomed visiting guests from the Civil War Club. All officers as well as special committee chairpersons were introduced.
Fifteen 10-year member pins were awarded to quilters from various chapters.
Program Chair Micki McCumbee reported on changes and additions to classes. This information is available on the guild website (www.QGOTV.org) and from individual chapter program representatives. In-house instructors had samples of their class projects available.
Ann Moroz clarified a point regarding free admission for Guild volunteer workers at the MarketPlace. If a member works for 2 hours, that will allow free entrance on the day the volunteer worked. Otherwise, Guild members will be charged $5.00 entrance fee and the public will be charged $7.00.
Micki then introduced our guest speakers, Conny and Ken Gleason. Their historical presentation was 'The Story of Quilting Through The Civil War' and they showed reproduction quilts from that era.
Jeannie Haller announced that packets for the Challenge Quilt were available for $5.00 to anyone interested in entering this category in our 2013 Showcase of Quilts. They will continue to be available at the Guild meetings.
Alice Nicholas has many free sample books of decorator fabrics available for anyone interested in taking them. She challenged us to use some of the free fabric in a project for Show-n-Tell.
There were eight participants in Show-n-Tell, and ten 50/50 winners.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Secretary
