What a busy bunch of women this meting - scissors were flying as members cut dozens and dozens of Christmas stockings for the Shoeboxers to begin to assemble for their annual military Christmas project. Led by Donna Star of the Piecmakers Chapter, and a Shoeboxer of many years, we whittled down piles of fabric into functional shapes. This was a fun charity assist project, that we are assured is much appreciated.
SUNDAY ROOM?: Further investigation by President Jeannie did not bring quite the answer we were hoping for. There is no option within the rec. district for us to have the use of any room for a day. Even if we were interested in establishing a spin off to our club, no one can use a facility for more than 3 1/2 hrs. We are left with doing a call in to verify the room is available - then can use it for our alloted 3 1/2 hrs. - and if no one needs it for their use - we can request to stay on, and probably won’t be bothered. So we’re going to try out a “call in day”, having everyone interested aware that we will do so (the last Sunday of the month has been suggested) and see how it works.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: After much discussion and input from members, President Jeannie came up with a recommendation, then proposed by Christy and voted unanimously into effect: To be a member of Laurel Manor Quilt Chapter, a full time member must attend at least 12 meetings a year, and a partial resident, 6 meetings a year. We are aware that we all do some traveling, and there are circumstances where someone could have to be gone for a period. Just let Jeannie know what to expect, those are not disqualifying factors. Our purpose is to open our membership to waiting members who wish to participate and be active, and remove members who only want to pay a fee to get a membership card, but will never attend. We currently have some, and they will be notified of this change. The room use requirement does not allow us to carry unlimited people on the rolls who are not attending. We are limited by the numbers we show as our membership, regardless how many actually come. A member check in sheet will be used in the future.
CHARITY QUILT TO HOSPICE: Our “Angel Quilt” has now been completed, with a special label attached, dedicating it to our own Mackie. We know she is looking down and just loving the way it turned out and that it will be bringing comfort to others.
HOT MEETING COMING UP! We’re getting mobile again, but staying close to home. On the May 21st meeting we have been officially invited to tour Cathy Stone and Jane Wnuk’s new sewing rooms! How cool is that!. They will be providing us with a progressive breakfast, a little at one house, more at the other AND, lots of inspiration, probably a little envy and plenty of fun. We’ve enjoyed hearing about both places the past few months, so this will be such a fun “meeting”. Cathy will be sending out driving directions to start at her house AT 8:30, then follow to Jane’s which is not too far away. Thank’s girls, we’re really excited about this.
Other congratulations to Joy who will soon be let out of the laundry room and into some real space! She and her husband are planning some updating in their home, which will include altering the guest room into a sewing room with one of those wall bed units. What a great idea, and we’ll be looking forward to all the exiting details there too.
QUILT GUILD WEBSITE: Rather than my typing out all the future classes and activities offered through our very busy guild - everyone who is reading this is on a computer, and can access all that information with pictures - by going to qgotv.org. It’s a great site and says it all!
