PIECEMAKERS CHAPTER NEWS: JANUARY 2013
Well, a new year has arrived, the holidays have passed, and many of our seasonal members have returned to enjoy the warmer weather. We have had a busy fall. We hosted the Guild monthly meeting in September and a brunch for the Bs quilting chapter in November. Also in November we enjoyed a presentation about sewing machines from Ray Wolf.
As the Showcase of Quilts draws near many of our members have been busy preparing their entries, creating for the silent auction, selling tickets for the charity quilt drawing, and working on items for the boutique.
Despite the busy schedule Ann Vogel taught a class on reverse applique to several members. She provided demonstrations as well as one-on-one assistance from choosing the fabric to creating stitches that are consistent and nearly invisible. A teaching of quilting basics is in the works for early in 2013. Those participating will learn the basics as they create a variety of blocks.
Mary Shara presented members with information and needs of the Patriotic Honor Flight and members have volunteered to work on a quilt to raise money in the spring and Ann Vogel donated a beautiful patriotic quilt to be raffled off.
Several members joined the Bs on a bus trip to Suwannee Valley in Trenton FL. It is a beautiful and unique shop with loads of fabric and a great little restaurant.
A group of ten members were able to attend the December dinner that we were invited to by the American Legion. While there we were given certificates, a warm welcome, a great meal, and thanks for the lap robes we make for the veterans.
As usual the Villages held a Christmas Golf Cart Parade. Co-Presidents Barbara and Esther joined several other Guild members in decorating a golf cart and participating in the parade. Ending the year with Christmas festivities and thankfulness the members donated gifts and money for a family chosen from the Lady Lake Elementary School. Members wrapped the gifts and then had a Christmas celebration with food and some gift exchanging.
