Well friends, September has arrived, grandkids have returned to school and thus, with the exception of the heat that continues, summer is over. Seasonal residents are slowly returning to the area and we have three new members to our chapter, Cathy, Shirley, and Susan. One of our seasonal members, Barb, has recently returned but now as a full time residence.
Over the summer, several members visited Rainbows End Quilt Shop where members chose fabrics to create a Bargello Heart Quilt that Esther demonstrated and instructed the procedures for creating. Esther has signed up to teach this class to Guild Members in October so if you missed out you can join this class.
Suzanne, who had won the last "Block of the Quarter", let us know that she had received 20 blocks and was making some more so that she could create a twin size quilt. The next "Block of the Quarter will begin in October. Prior to leaving Suzanne "challenged" the members to create strips using their scraps. She might be surprised at how many people have done this. Suzanne plans on putting these strips together to create charity quilts.
Speaking of charity quilts, two quilts were sent to Oklahoma victims, school supplies were collected and given to a local school in August. We received a letter, early this summer, from Jackie of Lake County Schools. The letter provided members with numerous examples of the children that were given the 5e quilts we presented them with last fall.
Having ended the summer we resumed our brunches with the B's. Our first was held in Sept. Also, with fall upon us we have put the monthly "charity quilt day" back on the monthly calendar.
A new addition to our monthly calendar began this summer when Esther arranged some "All Day Quilting" days where we can remain in our room for the entire day. These days cannot be booked far in advance but we have had two and another is scheduled for Oct. 29th. Members have chosen to make lunch a special event on these days. Once they all brought something to share and the second one was a pizza lunch.
Also scheduled for October is a bus trip to Trenton Florida Quilt Shop. The bus filled up quickly and we are looking forward to a pleasant day of shopping and lunch.
Barbe B. continues to keep us updated with those that are seasonals. It is so nice to know what people are up to and how they are doing. Vi does a good job at sending out cards to those needing some sunshine. Over the summer we sent out a few as Anne was ill, Eileen fell and broke her hip and most recently a sympathy card was sent to Wanda as she lost her husband.
Although fewer in number because "seasonals" were not here, the members did a fine job hosting the monthly guild meeting in August.
Wishing everyone a joyous fall!
