The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held February 5, 2013 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 7:07 p.m. She welcomed special guest Eric Drexler of Sulky Threads.
Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Secretary’s Report was accepted as read.
President Nicholas first welcomed the members of the newest chapter, The Brady Bunch of Bradenton. She then welcomed the other chapters individually. The following announcements were made:
The January Garage sale was a success.
The charity quilt and boutique brought in close to $10,000 that the Guild will donate to the Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties.
There were approximately 3000 attendees at the 2013 Showcase of Quilts.
Dale Angione announced that there were open spots in the workshops that The Quilting Sisters of Leesburg were having on February 27th and 28th.
Micki MacCumbee announced there were three upcoming Bees: Trash to Treasure Pineapple Squares, Zen Doodling and UFO’s. Sterling Stitchers is hosting a bus to the Lakeland Quilting and Sewing Expo on March 15th. Tickets are $30. (See Guild website, Quilting Links/News for Florida quilting events and notices.)
President Nicholas congratulated everyone who participated in making The Quilting Guild of the Villages Showcase of Quilts 2013 a success; especially the co-chairs Carole Schroeder and Ann Moroz and their committee members Cheryle Hahnfeldt, Linda Konstanty and Linda Thomas. President Nicholas then paraphrased Marilyn Paluszak’s tribute on the opening page of the QGOTV website and invited members to visit the website (www.QGOTV.org)
Showcase winners in attendance were called up to the stage to present their quilts. There were 239 entries in the showcase and 67 ribbons were awarded.
There were five name-tag winners and eight 50/50 winners.
Chapters who have not received their monies from the boutique were asked to contact Lucie Verbois.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:08p.m.
