The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held March 5, 2013 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held at Laurel Manor Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 7:00 p.m.
Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Secretary’s Report was accepted as read.
President Nicholas reported that she had reluctantly accepted Mick MacCumbee’s resignation at the last Executive Board Meeting. Ruth Mazurski of the Lake Miona Chapter stepped up to fill the position. President Nicolas asked the membership if there were any other volunteers for the position. No one volunteered and Ruth was unanimously elected as the new Vice President.
Several announcements were made:
There are several open spots on the bus trip to the Suwannee River Quilt Shop. Members are asked to contact Mary Ann Wood for more information.
Marion Burke from the Boutique portion of the Showcase said that one table runner was not claimed while another one had been misplaced. Members with information on either of the table runners are to contact Marion.
March 16th is National Quilt Day. Members are encouraged to work on one of their projects that day.
QGOTV will be presenting a check to the Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties at the April Meeting. The charity quilt designers, the charity quilt, and the charity quilt winner will all be in attendance.
The guest speakers for the night were introduced. Kay Smith of Country Road Quilters (Ocala) showed her Seminole Style Piecework. She talked about the history of Seminole Patchwork and showed a genuine Seminole Jacket and skirt. Beth Landas of QGOTV’s Friendship Star Chapter presented a trunk show about wall hangings showing a variety of techniques, including custom free motion quilting and applique. She also showed several of her Hoffman Challenge Quilt entries.
There were four name-tag winners and six 50/50 winners.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30p.m.
