The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held August 6, 2013 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 7:00 p.m.
After members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, President Nicholas welcomed the members and recognized guests present.
Joy Lynch, from Chatham, announced a bus trip to the Jacksonville Quilt Show on September 24. There are eighteen seats available at $34.00 each which includes transportation, show entrance and driver tip. The bus will leave Mulberry at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Contact Alice Besler at 751 4745 if you are interested.
The Secretary's Report was accepted as read.
Ann Moroz reported on MarketPlace 2014 which will be held at the Wildwood Community Center January 24 and 25, 2014. Basket Mania will be one of the events with proceeds going to ALS research per Executive Board approval. It was suggested each chapter consider putting together items for a theme basket. The items do not need to be quilting related. Let your Executive Board representative know if your chapter will participate. Nancy Wildzunas of Lake Miona Chapter is chairperson of this portion of the MarketPlace.
Alice read a humorous piece titled "Low Cost of Quilting' which was from the perspective of the husband of a quilter.
Ruth Mazurski, Program Chair, recapped upcoming programs.
September - Demo Night. From 6-7 p.m. Back to School night will be held in The Jefferson Room where in-house teachers will show their class projects. Members are asked to donate school supplies which will benefit Stanton School in Wiersdale.
October - Mystery Quilt. Pre-cutting will be required.
November - Juanita Yeager
December - Christmas Party and Teddy Pruitt
Tim from Sew-Mini Things in Mt. Dora then gave a presentation on needles and thread. He explained the many types of needles, proper use of the various types and appropriate needles for particular machine brands. He also explained the weight, ply and use of different threads for quilting. Tim announced his shop will participate in a Shop Hop November 8-16. The presentation concluded with a trunk show of quilts. After the meeting, fabrics were available for sale. Sew Mini Things offers various discounts to guild members.
There were seventeen show and tell participants, six name tag winners and seven 50/50 winners.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
