Quilting Guild of The Villages August 19, 2014 Executive Board Meeting
The Executive Board of the Quilting Guild of The Villages met on August 19, 2014, at Saddlebrook Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m. by President Beth Bender.
The Secretary's report was accepted as published. The Treasurer's report was emailed to all participants.
Ruth Mazurski reported that she delivered 15 boxes of school supplies to Stanton-Weirsdale School and that the principal was very appreciative. Ruth reported that 80 percent of the students are on the lunch program and that clothes as well as school supplies are needed. There will be another collection of school supplies in September and the Stanton-Weirsdale principal will be at the meeting to collect the supplies. Socks, underwear (sizes 8, 10, and 12) and boys and girls clothes can be donated in place of school supplies; Walmart cards may be donated in place of clothing. She reminded the Executive Board that the September Guild meeting will be a daytime meeting to be held at Savannah Center with the doors opening at 9:00 a.m. October will be Demo month. Each chapter is to supply a demo and some chapters have not done so. Written instructions for each demo will be given to the Chapter Presidents. Ruth reported on the need for more participants at the Instructor Classes. In order to cut costs, there will be fewer classes in 2015 plus there will be more Florida-based instructors. Prizes at the Guild meetings will only be awarded to Guild members; members will be required to show their badge, shirt or QGOTV Membership Card.
Marilyn Paluszak reported that she will not be able to attend the September or October Guild meetings and was looking for someone to take pictures. Suzanne Brown volunteered Allamanda chapter for September while Ruth will ask her committee for October.
Joy Lynch reported we have 959 members. The membership survey was completed at midnight on Monday September 18th and Joy is in the midst of collating the results. The cost of Survey Monkey ended up costing $300 rather than $200.
MOTION: The QGOTV Executive Board authorizes that Joy Lynch be reembursed for the purchase of Survey Monkey. Motion was approved.
Dale Angione reported on Showcase. October 1st is the deadline to submit entries for the quilt show. Showcase is looking for scribes for the quilt judging; a workshop will be held for interested members. Dale has received offers from more than 10 chapters to make Christmas tree skirts for Stetson Mansion. Skirts are to be given to Dale by November 13, 2014. Stetson Mansion has also asked for volunteers to exhibit their charity quilts. Interested members are to contact Judy Hanson. The Showcase is also looking for members to give 20 minute Demos. Interested members are to contact their Showcase representative.
Unfinished Business:
The Budget Report was presented. MOTION: The QGOTV Executive Board was asked to authorize the Budget as proposed. Motion was approved with four opposed.

New Business:
Operation Shoebox is looking for quilted items for their auction on October 4th. Members are asked to give their items to their chapter program representative.
Marilyn will be putting the Quilts of Valor contact person's name on the QGOTV website. (Fons and Porter publishes a Quilt of Valor pattern each month in their magazine)
Our memberships with AQS and NQA have expired. In order to get new guild membership, the Presidents are to ask their members if they belong to either group and give the information to Beth by the September Guild meeting. ID numbers and expiration dates are required.
Marilyn will post information about the Stephen Foster Quilt Show on the website (Around and About).
The meeting was adjourned at 4:41 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Heather Farnell, Secretary
