The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held May 6, 2014 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
The Meeting was called to order by President Beth Bender at 7:00 p.m.
After members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the Secretary's report was read and accepted.
The Treasurer's report will be available from the Chapter Presidents.
Old Business
Barbara Abbott from Operation Shoebox was on hand to accept a Guild donation of $115 which was raised at the April 15th Pat Knoechel program. Barbara gave the history and overview of Operation Shoebox. Volunteers are welcome at their Monday meetings at Lake Miona Recreation Center. The Budget Committee will meet Wednesday, May 7th.
Lucie Verbois, our prior Guild Treasurer and Mulberry Chapter member, is ill and members were encouraged to send Lucie a card or note of encouragement.
Carol Bajus reported on the pillowcase dress project. Patterns and samples are available in the back of the room. The girls' dresses will be donated to the Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties.
President Bender reminded members the Historian position is still open and she encouraged anyone who likes to scrapbook to volunteer for the position. See Beth if you are interested.
New Business
The Executive Board authorized $204 for 'Survey Monkey' an online tool to conduct and summarize a Guild survey. This tool will also be available to chapters for their use.
Dale Angione announced The Quilt Shop of Deland is looking for quilts to be on loan for a quilt show at the historic Stetson Mansion in Deland. Quilts will be on display from July 26th to August 8th. Anyone interested in showing or selling their quilt can contact Dale Angione of Mulberry Chapter or Judy Hanson at The Quilt Shop of Deland.
Ruth Mazurski, VP and Program Chair, outlined the upcoming Guild meetings and educational opportunities. She then introduced Carol Henry who gave a humorous and informative presentation on many tips, tools and techniques for quilting. Carol had some of her quilts available to view.
Ruth apologized as Show and Tell had to be postponed until next month due to time constraints.
There were nine 50/50 winners and 5 nametag winners.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
