The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held August 5, 2014 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

The meeting was called to order by President Beth Bender at 7:00 p.m.  After members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the Secretary's report was read and accepted with two corrections: The candidate that the Executive Board will recommend for the 2nd VP to serve for the rest of 2014 will be presented for approval by a majority of the members at the September Guild meeting. Catered lunches for class days will be $8.  The Treasurer's report is available from the Chapter Presidents.

Old Business:

Sharon Musch reported that the deadline for submitting quilts for the 2015 Showcase is October 1, 2014. A photograph of the quilt is to accompany the entry. (The quilt does not need to be finished when the photograph is taken.) Sharon recommended that all Showcase representatives share Showcase minutes with their chapter.

Membership is presently at 958 members. The LRP survey has been sent to all chapter presidents to be disbursed to the members. Please take the survey by August 12, 2014.

Voting on the revised BYLAWS was held; the BYLAWS were passed with no dissenters.

New Business:

The Charity Quilt raised more than $1000 in ticket sales at the Stetson Mansion in Deland.  Dale Angione reported that the Stetson Mansion is looking for at least 10 quilted Christmas tree skirts to be auctioned at the upcoming Christmas event. Interested chapters are to contact Dale. All proceeds will be given to each individual chapter that participates and the proceeds will be used at the discretion of the chapters.

Joan Trecartin and Pat Joho are collecting squares to make one or two new golf cart covers for the Christmas parade. Bring them to your chapter or the September Guild meeting. Workshops will be held at Sterling Heights on Sundays.

LRP, Communication Committee. First meeting was August 1 at Hibiscus. The next meeting will be on September 5th (9:30-11:30 a.m.) at Hibiscus Recreation Center. Please plan to attend if you are interested in communication within the Guild.

School supplies were collected at tonight's meeting and will be collected again at the September meeting.

Ruth Mazurski reported that Eleanor Burns' new book will be available for purchase for $20.  See your program committee rep if you are interested.  She also reminded members of the September Morning Guild Meeting at Savannah Center (9:30-11:30 a.m. with Show-n-Tell starting at 9:00 a.m.). Ruth then introduced tonight's guest speaker, Gyleen Fitzgerald. Gyleen demonstrated how she used fat quarters and color in her quilts.

There were three Show-n-Tell participants, three name-tag winners and five 50/50 winners

Respectfully submitted,
Heather Farnell, Secretary
