Carol served as Chairman for four years of the NQA Certified Teachers and, with her husband Richard, is owner of Laser's Edge, "a laser engraving business with a quilting flair." We say she is just plain fun and interesting and ... pretty amazing, too. What gems she shared with us this night. And by the way, us included more than 200 Quilting Guild members!!

Sharing her trick of the trade still didn't make doing a miniature like the yo-yo quilt sound so easy to us. Each circle was cut using a U.S. dime as the template ... and then the circles were sewn using a single thread. The Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt has a tiny bit of embroidery to give just the right punch to the flowers. Carol says she just folds checker board fabrics and does stitch lines, first horizontal and then vertical, to reduce the size and give the appearance of being made from fabric squares. Oh, and she uses a sewing clapper point presser to flatten seams. Used in tailoring and haute couture clothing ... we went searching for a photo to share for those of us who don't quite know what that may look like.
To qualify for the term miniature, a quilt must be reduced in direct proportion to a larger-sized quilt. It is not simply a matter of how many inches a quilt is in circumference or in length by width.

(left) Beth Landas, Friendship Star Chapter, shared three quilts. The center one toured for a year because it was a Hoffman Challenge 1st Place winner. The challenge fabric was a sea of roses but Beth's interpretation had them disappearing. We are fortunate to have her as an In-House teacher.
