LAUREL MANOR CHAPTER NEWS:  JANUARY 14, 2014

The first order of business for President Jeannie, was to introduce our guest, Bob Gottschalk of All Creatures Sanctuary in Ocklawaha, home to about 30 varieties of animals.  We were treated to a very interesting presentation about the Sanctuary itself, and information about animal behavior, especially dogs, which illecited several questions from members who learned a few things from his expertise. It’s was surprising to find out how many of our members are owned by dogs. . .  The Sanctuary exists fully on donations and volunteers.  Our attending members donated a respectful amount of items as well as money, which was received with gratitude by Bob. Any further donations to this very worthy place could be to the Ocklawaha Feed Store, or Healthy Pet, the Mobile Vet, Angel Smith, both of whom have open accounts for the Sanctuary.  Direct donations can also go to P.O. Box 723, Oklawaha, Fla. 32183. Bob is available for presentations to other groups if you know of any that might be interested, he can be reached at 407-765-2419.  Photos attached of Bob, and the donations.  Website:  www.allcreaturessanctuary.com

GUILD BUSINESS:  The Guild is interested in really promoting the classes that are available to us all.  The website is updating but we should be able to find the pictures and details there soon, and of course at every Guild meeting, class examples are on display.  Vice President Joy Niles always has details of the classes available, and we display the photo notices at each meeting.  We encourage our membership to take advantage of these opportunities, and hope those who do will share with us in the future.
In February there is still a class in a “Professional Bag”
In March there are three:  Trapunto, a Table Topper and a 2 days of Beginning Quilting
In April the Beginning Quilting continues, and there is one on Reverse Applique.

MYSTERY QUILTS:  Jane presented the 3rd. step in her sponsored Mystery Quilt, with details and cautions to ensure everyone gets good results. They are really taking shape now.

WINTER BLOCKS:  We now have 4 - really nice - blocks and have decided to extend this project for yet another week!  It’s been a particularly busy time, and a few members are still asking for time to submit something.  So, we will be looking for more next week.

NEXT WEEK:  Bring your own projects.  Those Mystery Quilts are a good one to bring!

FUTURE MEETINGS:  Sunday, March 9th, has been secured for our Swing Jacket Project day.
We have requested 1 to 4, and expect the approval next week.  March 18th is “Garage Sale Day” for all quilters at Paradise. If you have sewing related items you wish to sell, you can secure a table, and turn your treasures into currency!  Joy has details.
