PATCHWORK GARDEN EVENING QUILTERS CHAPTER NEWS:  MARCH 24, 2014

Co-Presidents Penny Gibson and Kathy Howe called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Secretary's Report -- The minutes of the February 24, 2014 business meeting were approved.

Treasurer's Report -- Sally Rowe gave the financial report.

Information Dissemination -- Kathy reminded members to regularly check for new notices on the bulletin board and on the table by the back door.  Please review your data on the Patchwork Garden Roster, make needed corrections and initial the form.  Everyone must complete the Guild membership form.  Check the notebook to see if your form is on file.  A new member packet is available as well as information on purchasing nametags and logo shirts.  The donation quilt photo book with instructions is located by the bulletin board.

Patchwork Garden Events -- Kathy reviewed these exciting upcoming events:
Monday Evening Activities
--WHAT A NIGHT!!  NEXT WEEK!   March 31, Please come on time or be early!   "Chinese Auction (Trash to Treasure)."  Bring in stuff you want to unload (quilt related or not) and a little money for a fun-filled evening.  Ten cents a ticket. 50/50 drawing, too!  Show and tell drawing!
--April 7, "Hot Plate," using the AccuQuilt.   Bring your machine.
--April 14, "Prairie Points," by Carol Browning.  Bring your machine.
--April 21, Business meeting and birthday quarters.
--April 28, Donation quilts, show and tell drawing.  Bring your machine. 
--June 14, next Saturday retreat.

Shop Hop -- Carol Browning and Pat Bruce revealed tentative plans for Patchwork Garden's upcoming shopping adventure to Suwanee Valley Shoppes in Trenton on Friday, April 25.  Next week, they will present the details.  Here is the link to the shops:  http://www.suwanneeshops.com/

Christmas Party -- Members voted to go out for dinner for the club's Christmas Party set for December 3, 6:30 - 8:30 PM.  Ruthie Campbell booked Legacy at Nancy Lopez for the event.

Christmas Challenge -- Pick up your fabric square from Judy Ozbun.  Make any project you wish using this fabric and bring it to the meeting on December 8 for the big reveal.

Club Activities Survey -- Shirley Larsen took a survey to determine what kinds of activities are of interest to our members.  The top vote getters were:  work on our own projects, update of the classes offered by the Guild, make and take, instructional meetings, quilt retreats, shop hops.  A final count of the survey results will be distributed.   

Committees -- Shirley asked members to review the committee list and sign up for committees or delete their names from service in which they no longer want to participate.

Donation Quilts -- Items donated to date in 2014 include: 25 quilts to Healthy Start; one scrappy diamond quilt with the white background to Operation Shoebox for their raffle; 101 pillowcases to ConKerr Cancer; one gift basket worth $100 to 2014 Marketplace.

Eloise Noble brought in a table load of fabric donated to the chapter for members to use in making charity quilts.

Chris Phillips displayed the yellow brick road quilt top our quilters made at the last meeting.  Kathy displayed the patriotic quilt top made at the last retreat. 

Show and Tell  -- Eloise Noble, Beth Blink and Mary Ellen Streeter presented their show and tell this evening.

Happy Birthday! --These March babies chose their birthday fat quarters: Patty Wooten, Lynette Krauskopf and Ruth Chary.

Beasley's - Contact Penny if you want to join her on a trip for pet screening on March 27.  She will depart from Lake Miona Rec Center at 9 am.

Guild News - The following information was available to members:  Guild budget, ConKerr Cancer pillowcase tally, a photo of the 2015 Charity Quilt and ticket information, a letter from Sunset Pointe Chapter.

The Guild has 929 members.

The Guild purchased a computer and Quick Books for their Treasurer.

President Beth Bender will visit each chapter.

Contact Joy Lynch if you want to join the Long Range Planning committee.  It will work on resolving the space shortage.

The By-law and Standing rules are nearly completed. Chapters will then give the final approval.

The Website is up to date and a memorial page will be added.

Two patriotic quilts were donated to Cornerstone Hospice.

About 200 people attended the garage sale. 

Showcase 2015 -The Showcase will be held January 23, 9-5 pm and January 24, 9-4 pm, at the Savannah Center. Judy Ozbun verified that our two queen size quilts are sufficient contributions for the Silent Auction.  Joe Comer will quilt these this summer.  

Please see Penny to give her information about obtaining a credit card usage square to use at the Silent Auction and Boutique.

Kathy distributed Charity Quilt raffle tickets for members to sell.  Money is due by January 1 to Sally Rowe.

Vote - The majority of the members voted that funds raised from the Showcase 2015 Silent Auction should be allocated to the Guild general fund instead of charities.

Showcase 2015 Boutique - Nancy Rockwell is Patchwork Garden's Boutique representative.  Because of space constraints, there will be a maximum of 18 vendors.  Patchwork Garden had voted to make postcards and earrings for the Boutique; however, the Guild determined that no jewelry may be sold.

Guild Meetings, Workshops, Classes and Bees -- Kathy reviewed upcoming Guild events.  She explained that the Guild is attempting to increase its use of local instructors to help keep enrollment costs down.  Members may visit the Quilting Guild of the Villages website at www.qgotv.org for complete information on Guild meetings and classes.  Jo DeCandia also posts this information on the Chapter's bulletin board and sends it to members by e-mail.

Ruth Campbell is our contact person to sign up for Guild-sponsored workshops or members may sign up at the monthly Guild meetings. To register for a class, contact the in-house instructor.  Here is a brief summary of April's activities:

--April 2, Fast and Easy Reverse Applique.
--April 6, Open Sewing.
--April 13, Open Sewing.
--April 15, Special Guild Meeting, Pat Knoechel.

The business meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
