Quilting Guild of The Villages March 2013 Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board of the Quilting Guild of The Villages met March 19th at Saddlebrook Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 3:00 p.m.

Opening Comments: President Nicholas introduced Ruth Mazurski , the incoming Vice President.

The Secretary’s Report was accepted as published.

Lucie Verbois gave the Treasurer’s Report.

Ruth Mazurski gave the Program Committee report. The Seminole style class was very well received and it is hoped that another class will be held in June. It was strongly suggested that members who are attending Pat Knoechel’s April 16th demonstration and trunk show at the Chatham Recreation Center carpool, as there is limited parking.

Marilyn Paluszak, Webmaster, reported that there were updates to the quilting services page. Under Long Range Planning, Marilyn reported that the group can meet twice a month, on the first and third Fridays from (9:30 am to 11:20 am) in the Jasmine Room at Hisbiscus Recreation Center. Chapter presidents will be invited to the April 19th meeting to solicite their suggestions. Chapters are advised to send an alternate if the president can’t make the meeting so that their ideas can be heard.

Membership is now at 803 members. The Guilds embroidered shirt logo has been standardized. Guild shirts can be ordered at Custom Apparel and Gifts in the Southern Trace Shopping Plaza.

Sharon Musch, Showcase 2015 co-chair , reported on the first steering team meeting. The team recommended that there not be a charity quilt at the next Showcase due to the high amount of labor and low return of funds. It was also recommended that due to space constraints that the Showcase be limited to quilting only displays. Sharon will work up an email on these topics and give it to the Guild Secretary who will forward it to all Chapter Presidents for discussion. Chapters are to let their presidents know their stand on these issues. Sharon also asked for 2017 Showcase Shadows.

President Nicholas handed out flyers on the Quilting Cruise to be held March 8 - 15, 2014. Space is limited to 70 quilters. Bus transportation will be available at $60, round trip from The Villages. She also reported that the April Guild meeting will be held in the Jefferson and Washington rooms at Laurel Manor due to the Senior games. Newspaper reporters from the Villages and Leesburg have been invited to record the check presentation to The Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties.

Lucie Verbois read the minutes of the Budget meeting held on March 12th, 2013 and presented the Proposed Budget for 2013-2015. Moved by Cathy Barlow, seconded by Joyce Doig, that $3000 be moved from Chapter Grants/Established to Programs. The Executive Board approved the Proposed Budget with that change.

President Nicolas asked for volunteers to form a committee to review the Bylaws and Standing Rules. Volunteers were Marilyn Paluszak, Joy Lynch, BarbaraRule-Mispel and Joyce Schaubert.

The Chatham Chapter is in the process of planning a bus trip to Rainbow's End, a quilt shop in Dunedin. See www.rainbowsendquiltshoppe.com. This trip will take place in late April or early May.
