Ruth proposed we contract with additional well known guest speakers this fall since they will be in our area and we can avoid travel costs. Jo Coon who teaches hand applique will be available and Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company may also be available for a presentation. A ten dollar fee may be charged since these speakers were not in the budget for 2013. Jeannette Flint moved we contract with both instructors, seconded by Suzanne Braun and carried.
Webmaster Marilyn Paluszak reported the website is up to date. Marilyn reported the Long-Range Planning Focus Group meeting with chapter treasurers was held and was well received. The next meeting will be this Friday with chapter secretaries.
Membership Chair Joy Lynch reported we have 824 members. Joy presented the final artwork for the 20 year pins. There was a motion by Joyce Doig, seconded by Linda Thomas to purchase 10 year pins in the same design but silver in color. The motion carried. Joy was authorized to order more membership cards.
President Nichols reported she has requested morning and afternoon chapter space at Eisenhower Recreation Center when it opens. She will also request afternoon chapter space at the Big Cypress Recreation Center since our last two chapters (Bradenton and Captiva) are already filled.
There was discussion about moving the Executive Board meeting day but it was decided to leave it as is for now.
Ann Moroz reported on Market Place 2014 and distributed her budget. Ann asked if the chapters may be willing to donate items toward the Basket Mania with the proceeds going for ALS research. The presidents will report to Ann if their chapters wish to participate. Nancy Wildzunas is handling the baskets. Ann said there is no room for individual chapters to have raffle quilts at the Market Place. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: volunteer coordinator, meet and greet, stamp hands, handout leaflets, collect admission money, security at doors and help with vendor set-up. Volunteers will receive a daily entrance to the Market Place. The public will be charged $7 and Guild members will be charged $5 per day.
Alice reported for Showcase 2015. Sunset Pointe will make a Charity Quilt for the Showcase and will assume responsibility for ticket sales. Proceeds will go to the Guild for a charity yet to be determined.
The Showcase Steering Committee will be meeting this Friday to determine the theme from the suggestions they received.
Kickoff for Showcase Coordinators from the Chapters will be at 6:00 p.m. prior to the October Guild Meeting. Be sure your Chapter has a representative at this meeting.
Quilting at Sea sign up has been extended to 7/31.
Alice suggested the Guild open a post office box so former officers do not continue to receive Guild mail. Alice will check if Laurel Manor Recreation Center will accept mail for the Guild.
Alice reported the first meeting of the Vintage Sewing machine Club will be at Lake Miona Recreation Center from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. They plan to meet weekly.
Joanie Jones from Sunset Pointe Chapter announced Samaritan Inn in Leesburg, a temporary refuge for homeless families, needs quilts for children. Contact Joanie at 751 3038 if you wish to help.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
