Quilting Guild of The Villages September 17, 2013 Executive Board Meeting
The Executive Board of The Quilting Guild of The Villages met September 17th at Saddlebrook Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 3:00 p.m.
After opening comments, the roll call was taken and Lucie Verbois presented the Treasurer's Report.
Vice President Ruth Mazurski, Program Committee Chair, thanked all members for a very successful September Guild Meeting. There were 185 attendees and eight large boxes of school supplies were collected for Weirsdale school children. The Guild will continue to accept school supply donations at the October Guild meeting for anyone still wishing to donate.
The Long Range Planning Committee has scheduled a meeting Friday, October 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Colony Cottage Regional Recreation Center. All Chapter Executive Board members should plan to attend (Guild Officers, Chapter Presidents and Chapter Members-at-Large). Please bring your own lunch.
The October Mystery Quilt program has only seven attendees to date. The considerable sewing prior to class may be the reason for low attendance. Juanita Yeager's November class has only four people signed up. There is a concern that the Guild is spending a significant amount for guest teachers and our members are not participating in the classes. It is important that Chapter Presidents make sure all members know who their chapter program rep is as communication is vital to the success of these classes. Members should also be encouraged to use the website which has up-to-date information on classes. Ruth also announced she will be requiring samples of the class projects in the future.
Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company will be our guest speaker/instructor on November 14th at the Savannah Center. Price to attend the lecture and class information will be announced soon.
This Friday at 9:30 a.m., the focus group for Membership will meet at Hibiscus Rec Center.
Ann Moroz reported for Marketplace 2014. Ann distributed a letter to be used when requesting donations from businesses for the basket mania. Lake Miona Chapter will be making up the baskets and all the items for the baskets should be given to Lake Miona Chapter by December 15th. Mulberry Chapter agreed to handle the Volunteer Coordinator duties for the Marketplace.
Joy Lynch reported we have 848 members. Ten year pins have been ordered. Joy suggested she coordinate the information for the Recreation News rather than have each chapter listed separately. Jeannette Flint moved to have Joy consolidate Guild information for the Recreation News, listing all chapters and designating which chapters have openings. This was seconded by Judy Short and carried.
Alice Nicholas announced a new chapter is being established at Big Cypress Recreation Center. The first meeting will be October 1st from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Joy and Alice will attend to welcome new members.
There was discussion regarding guests at the Guild Meetings. There will be a separate book for guest sign in and the guest fee is $2.00.
Sharon Musch asked the Chapter Presidents to review and update the list of Showcase committee members. The first meeting of this committee will be October 1st prior to the Guild Meeting. Sharon stressed each Chapter must have a rep at every meeting.
Chapter Presidents were asked to have their chapters recommend three charities to be the recipient of proceeds from the charity quilt. This information is due by the October 15th Executive Board meeting. The steering committee will review this input and each chapter will be asked to vote for the top three recommended charities. A count of each chapter's votes, by charity, is due to Sharon by the November 19th Executive Board meeting; Sharon's email is Showcase2015@qgotv.org
Judy Porter volunteered to chair the Nominating Committee to select candidates for Guild President and Treasurer who will serve 2014/2015. Each Chapter should send two representatives to the first meeting to be held Monday, September 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Silver Oaks room at Saddlebrook Recreation Center. Candidates will be presented at the October Guild meeting.
Alice reminded the chapters to complete facility permits for 2014.
Since there was no objection, Alice stated Guild dues for 2014 would remain at $5.00 per member.
Buses are not allowed to pick up members at the Rec Centers for trips. Unfortunately this issue was not addressed at the most recent Lifestyle meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce McKee, Acting Secretary
