The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held April 2, 2013 at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

The meeting was called to order by President Alice Nicholas at 7:00 p.m.

Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Secretary’s Report was accepted as corrected. The bus trip was to Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop.

President Nicholas introduced the Seabreeze Chapter members who designed the Charity Quilt, the 2013 Showcase co-chairs, the 2015 co-chair, and the winner of the charity quilt. The quilt has been appraised at $2225. Ticket sales from the Charity Quilt plus proceeds from the Boutique are earmarked for charitable donation. President Nicolas then presented a check to Kelly Smallbridge, Executive Director of the Lake and Sumter Counties Haven for $10,784.25. Kelly gave a brief description of the Haven: helps women and children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse. In the past year the Haven has helped 13,000 to 15,000 victims: 2,500 calls were from The Villages. The Haven is always in need of household donations and clothing for those families who are starting new lives and had to abandon their possessions.

Several announcements were made:
Members were asked to pick up flyers describing the QGOTV quilt cruise to be held from March 8th to March 15th, 2014.
There is a photo article in the April 2103 Villages Magazine about the 2013 Showcase of Quilts.
Dale Angione announced that the Mulberry Chapter is sponsoring a bus trip to the Boutique 4 Quilters(Melbourne) plus the Rockledge Quilt Shop on Tuesday April 30th and that there were three open seats available. Cost is $25.
Ruth Mazurski reminded members of Pat Knoechel’s April 16th demonstration and trunk show at the Chatham Recreation Center from 9:30am to 11:30am. Parking is limited so members are asked to carpool or use their golf carts. In lieu of previous donations of canned goods for the Food Bank, a small cash donation will be accepted. ($1 suggestion)
Nancy Mahoney will be the guest speaker in May. Members are encouraged to tell their Chapter Program Committee representative what speakers they would like to see in 2015.

There were nine Show and Tell participants, five name-tag winners, and five 50/50 winners.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Heather Farnell, Secretary
