Sharon behind her newest baby quilt!
What a privilege it was on Tuesday night to be able to give a hearty "Thank you" to a few very special Guild members (see photo). These women were among the first to gather in 1993 with the simple desire to sew and make quilts together. Much like a great scrap quilt, however, the group quickly took on a life of its own. All Guild members now benefit from their first steps.
Today we are 876-members strong, meeting in 15 different Chapters (soon to be more when Eisenhower Recreation Center opens up for activities). The Guild
Standing (L-R): Barb Morrow, Ida Hoover, Margaret Kovalchick and Dolly Clouse, Piecemakers; Pat Rizzo, Mulberry; and Jeanette Flint, Laurel Manor.
Seated: Marge Robbins, Piecemakers; and Rita Pickard, Quilting B's.
brings a variety of learning opportunities to our members every month. We share our love and the artistry of quilting in our Chapters and at Guild meetings. We provide service to our community through our philanthropic works that benefit many local organizations. No one could have envisioned the result of those first sewing and quilting meetings 20 years ago. But we sure are happy these ladies paved the way!
TEDDY PRUITT, GUEST LECTURER AND QUILT APPRAISER
If you missed the Christmas Party, you missed a fun-filled evening with Teddy Pruitt. Her "Other People's Fleas" presentation was filled with laughter and insights about those flea market finds everyone hopes will be worth millions. Sometimes those quilt tops aren't worth quilting; sometimes they become 'donor quilts' and a block or two (or more) may be the perfect accompaniment to your newest quilt. Her story quilts are treasures, filled with bits of wisdom and laughs.
